I walked into my local DIY shop this lunchtime. "Excuse me," I asked, "have you got any 3 inch screws?" "Only what we've got on the shelf," replied the cashier, pointing. I don't know why he's selling these, I thought to myself as I unscrewed them and the shelf fell down.

That looks nice. I'm not really allowed to grow beetroot as the wife doesn't like it. Pity, but it is true that there just isn't room to grow everything. Just planted some autumn spinach where the onions were. I've made pear and damson jams in the last few days. I massively recommend pear jam - it's absolutely brilliant (you put in a vanilla pod).
