When ‘non essential’ travel is allowed? No idea to be honest, I’ve not ridden either on or off road since the last lock down was announced. Its not really effected me though as I’ve managed to get the two wheeled buzz on the push bike. I think most people will consider it OK from the 8th when you can meet up with a friend for coffee outside.
This is bloody chaos and all stems from the appalling quality of the legislation and the combination of both negligent and wilful muddying of the waters vis a vis the difference between law which is binding and guidance which is merely advisory.* Without checking, and from memory, the operative bit of the legislation is the prohibition from leaving one’s home save for various exempted activities. However, again, from memory, despite claims to this effect by police, there was no geographical limit on where you could exercise, which led to unseemly and ridiculous arrests of people who had driven out of their local area to have a stroll. So, it would seem that you can ride your bike to meet a friend in a park after 8th March, but not ride your bike just for the sake of it. TLDR: until the Act or part of the Act is repealed or amended to expand the list of permitted activities (which IIRC, are actually in a Schedule to the Act or its Regulations) or to remove the “You must not leave your home unless....” prohibition then, strictly speaking, riding just for the sake of riding is verboten. * The same game was played by the same people Re: the Brexit Referendum, which was merely advisory but they treated it as binding and encouraged their supporters to do likewise. This is not a Leave/Remain point but just an early example of the way the same people have play fast and loose with the Rule of Law and the dangerous consequences of setting “ends justify means” precedents.
Random fact. I am/was a very active person. I now have issues with the circulation in my legs (my left one particularly) which could lead to thrombosis if I don't get out and about more. Cheers Boris
I'm going to say probably the 29th March, it's the first time that it's not illegal to leave the house for a non essential reason. Personally I'm going to try and keep the bike mothballed through as much of march as I can and focus on finishing DIY in the house and Garden because NO WAY am I going to be spending weekends doing it when we are more-free
From looking at the roadmap, I'd say the 29th too, unless you are going to buy food, visit the doc, take your kid to school etc
We are planning a socially distanced ride out for 6 riders on the 28th so I hope it is the 28th. Andy
I agree that “recreation in outdoor spaces between 2 people” might include riding a motorcycle (albeit not in groups), but the diagram appears to qualify the ambit by saying “such as a park”. I can see we might well be back to a situation where power mad police officers and snooping busybodies interpret any exceptions very restrictively on the basis that if it’s not mentioned in the list of permitted activities then it’s not allowed. I think it’s best to wait and see what any draft Bill or Regs say before making any plans for 29th March or beyond that involve aggro such as time off work or incurring expense as it remains to be seen what is (going to be) law, what is mere guidance and what is just going to turn out to be another one of BoJo’s people pleasing “promises” (remember the Xmas debacle).
Let us know how you get on, personally I think I’ll skip riding a motorcycle until June at least. Unless I go back to commuting long distance, but no jollies for a while.
Its going to be worse than the usual April carnage when a load of blokes with failing eyesight and impaired reflexes throw a leg over their 200bhp crotch rockets. Usually they (we!) have only had 6 months away from riding but now, with the exception of the brief July - Sept window last year, it’ll be 18 months. Plus everyone is going to be giddy with excitement after months of misery. I’d be perfectly happy to just bimble around on and after 29th March until I get my eye in again (though tbf, I have ridden on/off during lockdown when running errands) but that doesn’t guard against some tool whose talent is trumped by the laws of physics wiping me out. Maybe I’ll stay away from tarmac and stick to green-laning the DT until things calm down a bit.
I've been to sepc savers and had my eyes checked so i'll be out on my 200+bhp RSV4 and hopefully i'll keep it shiny side up
Golf is allowed from end of March , I shall strap an 8 iron to my back , and book a game at Uphill links , perfect excuse for a ride .
