So who's confirmed for WDW 2014, and what are your plans?

Discussion in 'WDW 2014' started by nuttynick, Dec 10, 2013.

  1. But living 10 minutes from the tunnel means a bit less mileage. It'll be just over 850 each way, split into 490 day one, then 360 on day two.

  2. Was looking at the map and as I'm riding back with Pete, my journey there will be a little different.
As I have four days I was thinking either Calais, Reims, Dijon, Lyon, Grenoble, Nice, pop into Monaco and then along the coast to Genoa, Florence then Rimini
    or
Calais, Rouen, Le Mans, Tour, Bourges, Lyon, Grenoble etc etc
hotels as and when needed along the way

  3. Matt, if you're considering going from Grenoble to Nice, you must do the Route Napoleon! Highlight of my ride last time round.

  6. Paul, I'll be all luggaged up on my Elefant, maybe...

  7. Your first route is doable in four days Matt, but Le Mans is in completely the opposite direction and would add a lot of mileage to your journey.

The Route Napoleon is from Grenoble to Cannes - the old Route 85 (now re-labelled the 1085, 4085, 6085 in places). Definitely unmissable.

Monaco will take all of 5 minutes to cross, and motorbikes are not allowed in the best parts anyway.

The autostrada from Bordighera to La Spezia (A10/A12) is amazing. It consists largely of tunnels and bridges, and the curves are really tight. Two lanes in each direction and no hard shoulder. Don't expect to do any high average speeds along there. The old coast road (Italian Road 1) is towns all the way, and would be unfeasibly slow.

  8. Yeah I was leaning in the direction of the first route. I would love to see Le Mans and ride down the Mulsanne Straight, but maybe that's too much for the one journey
I only want to pop into Monaco to ride on some of the GP circuit, but Im not too worried about the time it will take along the coast road though :)

  9. You might regret that comment, when you're stuck in heavy traffic on a very hot bike in mid 30 degree temperatures! I rode from Italy to Bandol along the coast, lovely road with some great tunnels, but even 20 years ago it was busy in places.

  10. :Arghh::Arghh:

  11. Don't forget..............
It is Tour de France week and accommodation down through those sections will be heavily booked.......

  12. Hi chaps, I want to ride over to WDW 14 I am a member of the Nene Valley DOC, I would like to join up with some of you for the ride over if possible.

  13. Well OK, but that depends on what routes and what dates, out and back, you have in mind.

  14. The shortest route lol!

  15. Where are you based in the UK (assuming you are in the UK) as this could make a big difference to joining up with people. For example I'm on a pre 07:00 train to Calais on the Monday, with four days right across France, so it would be worth taking into account how far you have to travel to/from Folkstone

  16. Hi I am 3 hrs from Dover, coming down from Cambridge, what are your plans for accommodation on way down.

  17. The only hotel I have booked is the one in Rimini. I didn't want to tie myself down by booking hotels on route. The plan is to play it by ear. Find a hotel when and where I need it :)
