Soft / Bad / poor brakes brake Back or and Front - Simple low cost modification

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by AirCon, Jul 27, 2013.

  1. You still misunderstand me. I own a 2013 MTS touring S skyhook model, with a poor front brake. I test rode a brand new 2015 DVT model, which has a great front brake. Never mind what is discontinued, plenty of the discontinued models are around with what I consider to be a substandard front brake when it is spongy, which it is most of the time, unless you bleed it completely after every ride.

  2. Care to expand air con ?
I stand by what I said. I changed my front hose when fitting the p4s so know it's not necessary.

So what am I missing :)

  3. Sorry to hear that you have a problem with the front brake on your 2013 MTS; it would have saved confusion if you had said so in the first place. Good luck with getting it fixed.

Everybody has been complaining about their rear brakes for the past four years, but the front brakes are generally thought to be excellent - I know mine is. I have no idea why you are suggesting front brakes are a widespread problem. Any evidence?

  4. I repeat.
When you undid the banjo at the abs pump to replace the pipe to the front caliper (venhill?) Did you notice the lack of brake fluid flowing everywhere?
You need to bleed both sets (front and rear) of pipes at the abs pump as each represents the highest point in that circuit.

  5. Note I'm laughing at the braking system design...not the advice.
    Sorry if I caused offence?..

  6. No offence air con, just lack of clarity.
In my case there was no lack of fluid at the banjo for the front hose, only the rear.
maybe I got lucky, but that's my experience on two bikes.

I agree, not the greatest design. Similar to my st4s abs though, and that didn't suffer the same air at the pump issues.
its just so sad the rest of the manufacturers seem to get a a decent rear brake with supposedly in firing components. My R1 rear brake is superb in comparison, using rubber hoses...

  7. I am glad you now understand, and if you look at Aircons very opening post on this subject,it clearly states this relates to both front and rear brakes.

  8. No, I still don't understand your post #92.

  9. Even spongy the front brake is still capble of bring the bike to a halt in good measure, unlike the rear.

  10. A public thank you to Ducati UK for sortin this out of warranty,as a gesture of goodwill.

  11. You're quite right! I meant to say I had an extended test ride on a new 2015 DVT ,which has brilliant front brake,in comparison to the poor affair on my 2013 MTS. Probably explains why I failed English o level.

  12. How many of the belled banjo bolts are needed for the rear brake circuit? 1 or 2?

  13. In theory you'd be right, however in the real world your not....take apart the banjo and have a look at the lack of fluid.

  14. And the debate of spongy brakes still rolls on, So glad I swapped the Multi 1200s 62 plate for a ultra relatable ZZR1400 lol, 2 years of hassle free riding, don't get me wrong I loved the Multi, but don't miss it's servicing costs, and what's going to brake today feeling

  15. Holy crap, this is a blast from the past :)
Aircon, read my previous posts on this thread, we have already had this debate :D

Satzoomer, great to hear, but the Zzr does nothing for me.
I too have had 2 years of trouble free riding, with my multi :)

  16. Just to add balance.
I'm a motorcycle slut. It's easier to list bikes I've not had; Harley, Gixer, R1 and R6.
    And after owning a 2010 MTS1200S and then a 2013 MTS1200PP, I've just purchased two more MTS1200PP (2013 and 2014 plates). I love em.....:Angelic:
I could have had any other bike :Bookworm: :Watching: :Vomit:...but no, the Multley is the only girls for me..
The brakes can be made to work reliably, just follow the instructions I gave and uprate the front calipers (optionally the disks).

  17. Got it...late night reading....yep you were lucky, On each of mine there was air, but it's much worse on the rear circuit.

  18. Why 2 Mutley's Aircon? Your not fitting a side car to one are you? :upyeah:

  19. :Hilarious::Hilarious::Hilarious::Hilarious:

No Ducati should be made into a Panther wantabee.
I'm like an animal lover at the RSPCA centre....I want a to find a home for all of them.

Found a great one...bought it.....then found an even better one and bought that one as well.
SWMBO is very very understanding...but then she is getting a new Kitchen.
The 2013 plate will be up for sale as soon as the weather breaks.
A 100% original MTS1200 PP for sensible money.
