Unbelievably Ive just found snd bought one from a 2013/2014 on eBay. From the US. $199. Says perfect. Hope this aint too good to be true.
gmoss, I would have a chat with a dealer first, see if they can plug it in, read any fault codes, and maybe run a test cycle (if there is such a thing) It could simply be it has lost all its fluid or gas and needs a recharge. I also think TW Suspension can rebuild saschs units, not sure if that includes the skyhook rear shocks though.
Apparently no service parts available for the skyhook. I would have thought an eletrical issue would have thrown up an error code, no?
If you have a friendly dealer, would always be worth banging the diagnostic on there and see what comes back
So, stopped by Rosso Corse in east London. Met the lovely Marcus who kindly plugged in and it showed no faults. Problem with the shock is mechanical. Seems to have lost all gas and/or oil. 'Tis f#cked. He's not seen this b4. Has anyone else?
If you do a search for sachs skyhook you will see a bunch of posts about maserati skyhook suspension. It seems their dampers do fail from time to time. The car ones are rebuildable. I would be taking it to a damper specialist once you have it off the bike to see if they can disassemble and fix it, even if its just to keep as a spare, or sell on to get some of your money back for the other one. Granted, getting seals or whatever might be a drama, but experts should know who / where to try. Give me ohlins any time (says the man who just bought a sachs equipped bike )
Sorted. A few hits with a 1.5kg persuader and drift to the head. Mains electric 450nm impact gun. First a quick blip clockwise, then repeated lefty loosely and out she popped. 45000 miles in all winters over 6 years. So don't despair. It will come out. Still a shite design tho. Covered in copper grease on the install. Now all I've got to do is deal with the 2 sheared mudguard bolts.
Hi There Sorry for late reply most shocks can be rebuilt Ok as long as you can find seals , not had any experience with one of these yet , but only other option decent manual shock but then your'e need someone to switch off electronic function to stop throwing up error & don't if it's possible to just switch off one end .
Apparently no parts available. Not sure wether to bin it or keep it on the shelf for one day when somebody can rebuild it.
Keep it "just in case" ..... during my recent house move i found a cat for the R1150GS i havent owned for 4 years and the oil filter removal tool as well as a solo seat conversion for a ZX636B1H i havent owned in 9 years i kept "just in case"
