Space- A Conquered Frontier ?

  1. What we need is a game changer without Nuclear fallout.
The only way this planets life is going to get beyond the next 300-400 years is to massively reduce our population.
By todays numbers around 7,143,000,000 to say 1,000,000 that way we might make it another 10,000 years.
As the film says, we are like a virus growing until all around us is dead.
We are using up the limited planets resources at an exponential rate.
Once energy and food start to get too expensive for the majority of the first world to keep warm and not feel hungry it will start to turn nasty very quickly.
Today, It is already happening with mass immigration from wealth starved and war torn countries into Europe.
The numbers are tiny and just look how our elected leaders are reacting.
"If you made it this far".. To our shores we look at you case.

If you haven't managed ...then we'll try our best to keep you out.
And at present energy and food is as cheap as it ever will be.
It's going to get harder every decade we move forward...

    Happy New Year 2015.
I'm also available for childrens parties.

  2. That could have been "Thought for the day" :upyeah:

  3. The "game changer" would have to be something akin to a wormhole in space time where the normal rules no longer apply. Otherwise we aren't going anywhere soon or even ever.

Manned space flight has more to do with national pride than anything else; why go to the moon to hit a golf ball ?

  4. Solar sails...
There is a good book somewhere in my past about our grand children overtaking earlier craft escaping a crumbling earth.

  5. You are still limited by the speed of light. Alpha Centauri is 4.2 light years away.

And the book is fiction ;)

  12. In some countries that we would regard as third world, the rate of population growth is already falling. Eventually the total will start to fall and some predictions put this as early as the next 50 years.
Once people realise that they don't need 10 children in the hope that a couple of them will make it and help the parents in their old age they wont have 10 children.
Education and infrastructure are making this a reality, too slowly i agree but its happening.

Over population is the greatest threat we face but it will be sorted.

  13. Except by then peolpe will no longer die of diseases before 90 so 65% of the population will be over 60

  14. Yes but by then being 60 will be middle aged, my dad at forty was classed as middle aged, now they say 50 is.
