1200 Spain Trip

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Beef, Oct 1, 2019.

  1. I would never venture into racing with the locals.

They usually know very well their area and run it every weekend.

Spanish folk are very competitive concerning motorcycles.

  2. My mate Adam has a few other bikes (well, 20!) 3x Buell’s, an 1198, Nuda, & Velocette to name a few. He bought the BMW for a trip I organised last year through the Dolomites, he says it does exactly what it says on the tin..... but it’s as dull as dishwater! Hope That Helps!

  4. Well as long as you ride within your own limits, it shouldn't be an issue - local knowledge can make you smoother.

  5. This thread and recent turn of events has me looking at the Portsmouth > Santander ferry prices for a last trip for this year. Will have to wait for some degree of certainty, if there's a chance if that..., for Oct 31st as I would be returning after that date.

  6. Probably still going from Plymouth?

  7. Thanks for that info, fortunately not a great deal of difference from Herefordshire.

  8. Yup, I can confirm the ferry is running on 1 engine so the Portsmouth - Spain route is suspended until next year at the earliest. The shorter distance to Plymouth means they can keep the crossings at around 24hr. They do not want to pull the ferry during the season for obvious loss of income.
    Get booked Bumpkin :)

  9. Whats the damage for a return ferry to Spain mate?

  10. Checked last night and I think it was £204 one way but that appeared to be from Portsmouth. Maybe the website is still offering Portsmouth but it actually goes from Plymouth?

There are a couple of pivotal things that will need to fall into place to make this trip possible. Won't know for sure if it's a goer for a couple of weeks.

  11. It's variable on the seasons, but what Bumpkin quoted is around the right price, obviously life is better with a cabin but it all adds up!

  12. Sorry, forgot to say. That was 1 bike, 1 rider with a 2 berth inside cabin.

Depending on long range forecast would probably come back through central France to Caen or Le Havre. Hence the one way crossing of the Bay of Biscay.

  13. Nighhhhhhhhtmare getting out of Plymouth at tea time.

  14. You’re not wrong - boat docked 1830, customs was carnage as the boat had over 200 bikes and was full! Once through passport control, hit Plymouth to find main road closed for resurfacing! It wasn’t until 1930 did I clear the city!!

  16. The N123 it was slim. You can't grasp the epicness of the mountains off maps or earth, but you feel pretty insignificant down there looking up.

  17. The CA-185 from Potes to Fuente De is epic. Best 25km cul-de-sac you’ll ever ride. We stayed at a hotel at the end.

  18. Couldn't agree more - I'd literally get the ferry to Spain just to ride that road!

  19. Try Mallorca, I have lived here for twenty years, awesome mountain roads and great road surfaces.
First a 900ss followed by a S2r 800, with 2 extra on the rear sprocket, great fun on the mountain hairpin roads.

  20. Do not stay at the beginning of the candy, the best of the cake is hidden underneath, try the Sierra de Gredos, Monfragüe Park, white villages, Alpujarras, Sierra Cáditana, etc. etc. If you dare to travel, I promise to serve as a guide.

    ;-)
