1200 Spare Keys

  1. They are the wrong blanks, suit a much older Ducati style lock.

  2. I must have struck lucky then or my Mutley has old locks........:):

In fairness the locksmith did say the blank was a bugger to cut due to the hardness of the metal but not a bad result for £3.69 (plus cutting charge) at the end of the day. Now, where's my Guinness? :upyeah:

  3. Show us a picture of your actual key. The image on eBay looks wrong compared to my key.
At under £4 you got a bargain.

  4. I've had spare keys cut, from Ducati transponder-less blanks that I got from WM Snells and they got them cut from the local key cutter. Cant remember how much, but my wife carries it when we are travelling so she can open panniers and top box and most importantly the fuel cap if I lost the proper key.

  5. Same here..once i find the invoice I'll put the details up.

  6. Here's a pic of the key that I got for mine.

From a local locksmith, supplied and cut for a tenner. The wee red bit is for slotting a transponder into it if needed.

  7. Here you go:

I think I got lucky in terms of key cost/cutting but I suspect there's plenty of Locksmiths who'd not entertain working on them due to the different quality (harder?) metal used?

  8. Blank spare from dealer, then had it done at

    Fortress Auto Locksmiths
    107 Brixton Hill

  9. I ordered a second active transponder key (black & silver) for my 2015 DVT from Snells, who set it up the electronic coding to work the hands-free on the bike. Today I got the metal blade of the key cut to fit the locks (at Locks Eleven). So now I have two active keys plus one passive (red) key. Snells tell me three is the maximum number of keys the hands-free system on a bike can be set to recognise.

Now I feel reassured - if a key is lost, stolen, damaged or becomes defective I shall still be OK. How about you?

  10. Nope - but then again, I do have the pin code as back up and a non-transponder key which lets me keep the main one safely tucked away in my jacket never to see the light of day? Didn't cost very much at all. How about you? :upyeah:;)

Joking aside - how much was the spare transponder key if you don't mind me asking?

  11. I brought a couple of Ducati non-transponder keys with the bike, and had them cut in Milton Keynes (Kingston) for £25. I have one on a ring with my lock and house keys, my wife has a second set. The active transponder key stays zipped in textile trouser pocket. The red passive transponder key stays at home with the spare keys for the locks.

I like to use non-transponder keys for opening panniers, top box & seat, just in case I leave it the lock. Someone my find the key , but at least the bike can't be started.

  12. I have spare keys also do not see point in having a spare transponder, with a spare key you just leave transponder in a safe pocket tucked away.
