While I am waiting for carb parts to arrive to give my keihins a refurb, I changed the plugs to pair of NGK DR9EA. So good so far. Ill keep you posted.
Another munched spark plug! So, I have removed my 5 ohm Dyna Coils, which have been good for thousands of miles and refitted the stock tackle. And I finally got round to giving my Keihins a refurb. Lets see what happens.
had no end of problems with ngk plugs sused to swear by them some on here still do but swapped to bosch plugs and my 750 runs really well with them
I swapped the back to the originals which made no difference. I carried out a minor refurb to my carbs which also made no difference. I followed these instructions which may have provided a minor improvement I posted my Carbs to Harper's Ultrasonic for a thorougher seeing to!! Probably should have done this months ago instead of being in-denial!!
Well, I got my carbs back from Harpers Ultrasonic. Such a great service. Bike runs beautifully. I've covered a few miles now I've fitted them back on my bike and the spark plugs look good and surviving.
Good to hear you've hopefully sorted your issue & more importantly for other that may follow, what cured the issue. Well done for perseverance
So, I've dismantled my bike. I'm going to give it a full (ish) restoration. Ducati John has the engine. I'm hoping when he pulls it apart, he finds a probable cause of the carbon fouling on the vertical cylinder. Watch this space.
Keep us up to date. The rear cylinder seems to be the one that cause more issues with plugs, due to the heat/lack of effective cooling.
The bike is fully disassembled, including the engine. No big surprises in the engine. Galley plug was loose, valve guides are shot. I've cleaned all the soot out of the cylinder heads and organised all the fasteners etc ready for plating. Only boring pictures so far! More to follow.
Engine is dismantled. I've had new valve guides made and pressed into place. The originals were very 'sloppy'.
Cases and covers etc have been sand blasted and I've painted them at home in a makeshift spray booth. Used PJ1. Everything black!
I do like a bit of PJ1 satin, was it easy getting the oil sight glass out, socket and tap out from the inside?
I will be vapour blasting everything, crank cases left in vapour finish, side cases + barrels heads all pj1 satin With pj1 I usually do a bit of spray touch up when needed but if you powder at least it’s done for good,,
Powder coating goes from powder to 'coating' at about 200C so I'd be wary of powder coating your heads, as the exhaust area is way over that... High temp wet paint perhaps?
