  2. Regularly spaced lampposts equals 30mph limit, unless posted otherwise.

I learned that on my speed awareness course : o )

  3. What’s with the reference to 50mph? Were you driving a van?
The National Speed Limit for cars and motorbikes on a Dual Carriageway is 70mph, unless it’s in an Urban Area when it’s 30mph.
If at variance from this it must be signed at start of that limit (Gateway) and with repeater signs if long enough to need them.
You can tell it’s an Urban Area if it has a system of street lighting. The Legislation even defines the threshold number and spacing that constitutes a “system”.

Traffic Signs Manual - Chapter 3
‘restricted roads (sections 81 and 82 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984), which are those roads with a speed limit of 30 mph by virtue of the presence of a system of street lighting (carriageway lighting in Scotland) where lamps are placed not more than 200 yards (183 metres) apart (185 metres in Scotland)’

  4. I remember you. You were at my Speed Awareness course.

  5. That’s not a very low speed. That’s far too fast in a 30mph zone. No ifs no buts.

I think you got off lightly IMO.

  6. They don't need to sign it at the gateway.!

  7. But they always do it anyway.

  8. Your all missing the point as usual,as and when you see or enter a dual carriageway you must hit the afterburners.:p

  9. 30mph dual carriageway is still a 30mph speed limit though? No?

  10. I have been told that no sign is on display at that point of play,by a very good friend.

  11. I've had a speeding fine follow me back from France this morning. 95km/h in an 80 limit.

  12. *Afterburners*, Fire. Afterburners.

  13. Well ... cut down the lampposts and level the nearby buildings.

If they can play dirty, so can we.

  14. They have to sign it where it changes from the defaults, otherwise the defaults apply?

The gateway is usually a pair of signs, one on each side of the carriageway, not your drive gate unless you own Kent!

  16. We do know a guy with an angle-grinder but he cannot be trusted with it.

What if he cuts through to the Earth's mantle?
