  1. exactly this, thank you N.
people can also get caught out with medical cars, similarly equipped with blue lights, as, unless things have changed, some also have the power to stop you on a public road, depending on the circumstances.

  3. In the 1980s I was fairly well known locally for my enthusiastic riding style. Would never stop for the boys in blue etc. I used to do the same journeys a lot so it ended up that every once in a while when I got home there would be a traffic division car waiting for me when I got home. We honestly would have a laugh, they were also very aware of who I was visiting and what was taking place there etc too. They would just say to me change your route or slow down for a bit as the sergeant is doing his nut and wants you to stop annoying him!

  4. Years ago I had a CBX turbo which could be heard for miles around. Used to do the same route regularly, and I later heard that the the local traffic had waited for me. Luckily I had gone abroad to work the day before

  6. Honestly it was like a scene from Cheech and Chong!! They were very good natured about it, in fact the north London drug squad were based 200yds up the road. They very kindly knocked loudly on the door a few times, to say someone might have left their lights on, I kid you not.

  7. you are reminding me of someone I got to know briefly at Box Hill. He had a 748R amongst other bikes, and although he didn't divulge an awful lot about his job, it was police/drug squad. If you ever looked at his tyres it was as though he'd just come back from a Track day most times. He did tell me repeatedly that the police* were trying to prosecute him on a regular basis for generally hooning around roads at any speed he felt like. I don't think they succeeded, and he ended up going to Ireland to look after his mum.

    *yes, i know..

  8. Or perhaps shoot some IRA blokes?

  9. I have met a few of them in more recent times

  10. I'm still enjoying the glory of no anpr negotiations between the NL and UK, the Dutch simply don't want to give the UK car registration details allowing me to take the absolute piss if I come over in my car or bike.

  11. Shhhh! France the same I believe. :upyeah:

  12. Yep, although with my Dutch plate, I do have to be a good boy down there lol

  13. I can't confirm or deny that i may do a ‘reverse’ trip this year. From UK to ‘various’ places including (possibly) ‘that bit’ on a UK bike. Who knows, the theory may be put to the test.. o_Oo_O

  14. Last car trip out to the French Alps, numerous speed cameras were set off both there and back not a peep have I heard.

  15. They don’t. But I think they can hold you (citizens arrest type thing) until the civvie cops turn up and take over.

I remember years ago when I worked in the Falklands getting into an altercation. The RMP’s tried to hold me but I broke away and ran off. They couldn’t catch me so off I fucked. They’d catch me now though  And yes, copious amounts of booze preceded said incident… :D

  16. I’ve had the same in France and Spain. Had the dreaded flash a few times but heard nowt. Before Brexit I’d receive a nice date stamped photo with 100 euro fine.

  17. For Spain you may be in for a surprise. Included in the treaty on recognition of driving licences between the UK and Spain in IIRC 2023 there was a section allowing the Spanish Police access to DVLA info for prosecution purposes and vice versa. Lots of folks have found this out a few months after their hols....

  18. It’s been a few months now. Nothing yet. That said, if I cop a fine from Spain or France, I’ll pay it. I drive through both quite regularly. Any smug twattery from fine dodging would soon evaporate if I got caught when over there :astonished:
