No speed cameras, beer at 18p a pint. £5 a week apprentice. No credit cards, videos Internet, mobile phones, wide screen tv's. Super bikes were not a definition. Norton commandos were crap and Triumph made a heady 45 bhp 100 mile per hour was special. Speedometers were super accurate of course, it said 100 you were doing 100 all your mates agreed, tyres did not wear, chains were always clean, drum brakes were still pretty much standard. Fuel injection the reserve of super cars. People were nice. I was a handsome, modest, Totty magnet. Not a lot changed. Well speedos ain't accurate anymore maybe
The speedo on my 98 R1 was well out ,i was riding along a stretch of 70mph 303 dual carriageway and my speedo was reading 180 mph ,bloody miles out
The rich kids at college had FS1e's, Garelli Tigers, Malagutti, SS50's all would pull 60 on St Peters way. Saw them doing it as I overtook them on my Puch Maxi. Speedos were accurate in the day
Car speedos can over read by 10% in the Uk . You always see trucks going 55 in a 50 . Never had a ticket off the smart motorways for doing it .......touch wood.
