Spirited Multi riding

  1. This could be a long thread :)

  2. don't the Multistrada handlebars look very wide

  3. There is something unrealistic about the first video, it was obvious the speeds were mph, but it still looks like the car in stationary with a film projected onto a screen.

  4. Yep, that was my impression too.

  5. especially when you contrast it with the second video.
oooh I feel a conspiracy theory coming on.

    Great soundtrack

  6. so the key to getting your knee down with a Multistrada is to really hang off the seat.

  7. The road from Imst to Garmisch Partenkirchen in southern Germany is mind-blowing. (The one that goes north, not the trunk road).

There are a load of roads in Haute Savoie, just south of the Lake Geneva (not talking about the high Alps) which are brilliant.
You could do the road Monthey (Switzerland) - Morgins - Abondance (France) - Les Gets - Taninges - Cluses

Then there's Riggisberg to Gurnigel, canton of Berne, Switzerland (and all the roads around there).

In fact, most of the roads around the Alps (not necessarily the high passes) will amaze you.

Also a huge fan of Yverdon - St. Croix - La Côte aux Fées - Fleurier - La Brevine - Le Locle. Racetrack surface, amazing scenery, hardly ever straight. Through forests, around boulders, between pastures. (This is local to me in Switzerland).

That's the first few that spring to mind.

  8. The key to getting your knee down on any bike is to really hang off the seat. Not necessarily the fastest way round a corner on the road though........

  9. The key to getting your knee down is to book a trackday. On the road it marks you out as a knob.

  10. Well, I wouldn't go that far...

Only if the guy behind has to bang on his brakes because the knee-slider is holding him up.

  11. Having experienced the 500 in Germany, and achieved so much wood I had to hit it with a book, Im looking forward to doing it all again next year on the Mutley. Last year it was 996.

Have to say the video is superb, and I think its great the way a couple of cars pulled over to let the bike through, just like over here on the great roads in blighty NOT!!!

  12. GOD!! that Honda Goldwing rider was impressive :upyeah:

  13. I will be coming to you for some advice mate, next year in June Im away with the wife for 8 nights, first 3 nights at 2 wheels moorin ,Dun-sur-Meuse France then 2 nights unplanned but am going to try and get into switzerland and then last 3 nights in Germany at Seebach nr B500. I went away last year with the lads and stopped in Bourg st Maurice and Interlarken

  14. Interlaken always sounds like a wonderful place. Is it..? I've only been to Switzerland twice, once when I was drunk, and the second time it chucked it down all the time I was there.

  15. Last time I was in interlaken it pissed it down too - so much so they had the sandbags out expecting the dam to break and flood the town!

  16. No, Interlaken is not a great place. I mean, it's not Slough, but it holds up pretty poorly compared to the rest of Switzerland. There are far too many tourists there for a start. If you're in that area, the hotel to go to is this one: About the Grandhotel - Grandhotel Giessbach
It's one of my very favourite hotels.

As I recall, Bourg St-Maurice is horrible too. So yes, looks like you need tips in the future to get the most out of your Alpine trips. Let me know.

  17. Absolutely agree with you there. Europe is a great playground and don't forget the Futa pass where Ducatis are extensively tested. It's from Bologna to Florence for those that don't know. Some crazy fast riders there including a Ducati tester on a Hyper who was really showboating and at the cafe in the middle we all inspected his completely ground away footrests.

Back to the original video - Great road and surface, really considerate drivers pulling over. I'm a little surprised at how much faster the S2000 was, as the Multi was being ridden well. He was playing very fair though by not straightlining when he could.

  18. I was just staggered by the cars that pulled over to let them past, even in France they just signal you past, they don't usually pull over.

  19. They will often just about drive in the ditch to let you past in France. It's happened to me countless times. Strange, otherwise the French are ruthless on the road.
