spongy front brake

  1. Lumbox, take it to someone to look at. In all honesty you seem a bit phased by it, as does you ex (why ex?) mechanic UPS mate. I would hate to know of someone end up in a hedge because the brakes are dodgy.

  2. You were ok me working on mine tho  pmsl

  3. OK....back it off so there is definite free play before the pushrod touches the piston.....only needs to be a tiny amount.

But......You say you "have new MCs, Brembo billetts (not genuine)"..........in which case they ain't Brembo are they? Is this where your trouble lies?

I would try fitting the OEM MC and lever if I were you.

  4. My mate has not looked at it yet. I'm like him too, machnice who's gone off in a different direction. Yes they are non gen MC, but I only bought them as the gen ones(and I've tried 3 different ones including the clutch one) give the same result. It may be that its fine and I'm trying to get it as good as the ZZR1100 I had before, I also had a ZZR250 did the brakes on them both no trouble. I even converted the 250 to twin disc with a KR1 front wheel all fine. As for the description of the brake leaver, I can't get it to go solid before it hits the bar. My mate is MG, Rover, TVR and VW trained so I hope he can sort it, if not may be a 750 braking soon and go back to the ZZR!!??

  5. Ok.........so everything is 'new' including pads, and/or you have tried OEM old parts as well........

I admit mine was a sod to sort out, but if the lever is coming right back to the clip-on, there has to be some air in there somewhere.

  6. So....my race bike had a 19x20 Brembo radial fitted. At the close to the bar lever adj, it would come all the way back. At 2/3 wound out adj it would come all the way back. At the 3/4 wound out is was solid as feck and perfect, reducing the amount it would compress etc etc. hence my point about pushing the span adjuster out. My SPS was the same with std levers, my 848 is the same both with std and aftermarket levers.

I know sweet feck all of anything, but just sharing my experience.

  7. Looks like were on to a winner!! Changed seals in caliper and all is good, must have been a sticky piston. Put the standard MC back on too so again totally original, worts and all. MOT next, I'm sure it will fail on some thing but ha go that's half the fun.

  8. Well done.......I suppose I shall be seeing you soon then? Take the B1078 then B1079, total about 16miles.

  9. OK so are you still having trouble?
Have you pushed it about and tried how the brakes work? If you get good power just soft lever, try a little ride up and down the drive/path. If you trap your fingers and can still push it then you've still got issues. I once fitted a small bore master cylinder to a single caliper super moto and felt soft all the time when bleeding (and riding), but first time i rode it i nearly went over the bars. The small bore needed a lot of level travel to move a little fluid which is why it felt soft, but it was actually putting loads of pressure through the line. It's only really if you get a large bore MC that will flow a lot of fluid could you expect a solid lever with little travel, but then on the road this compromises sensitivity.

  10. Well the saga continues, as I've sorted out the spungyness i thought i would give the old girl a clean. While cleaning the front caliper i noticed a small crack by the bleed nipple:-(, so order a pair of brand new second hand units of a 900ss but what i didn't take notices of was that they are off a ie and not a carby. I'm i right in thinking that the forks are different so they will not fit? If they will not fit has anyone enginered the problem out, or is a new thread comming on??

  11. Just distance between fixing holes isn't it? There is always adaptor plates

  12. IIRC 40mm centres on carby models, 60mm on IEs...........

  13. any idea where I can get them from bradders?

  14. Sorry no...but ducred on here seems pretty handy at making most stuff

  15. Ok thanks mate, sounds like a build, may go for stainless rather that alloy because there's loads at work and one of the fitters dose some first class welding. Already got an idea in my head, might even make a thread. Going to put a picture of mine on now, and another thread going to be started. Will keep you up to date on the brake progress.

  16. Just what I was thinking Al, but dose give me an idea of what I need to do, love a challenge.

  17. Well, seeing as how you only have one disc up front, does your right fork legs have the caliper lug....?

I have a pair of Marzocchis in good working order (my spares, just in case)...............but you can get them quite cheaply.

  18. Sure you could get one done for a lot less, just an idea of whats out there, my guess would be £40 a pair
