Sev sorry to be a pain asking all these questions but can I just keep putting two pack clear top coat on and wet and dry the marks out. It's the carbon section that's a bit lumpy. I need to use the clear coat to flat it out if I can.
No problem at all, it's what we're here for. What you're asking is not uncommon, and there are some custom sprayers that do just that putting lots of coats of clearcoat on so that they have a lot if product to cut back and polish. So yes you can keep layering the clearcoat on. Just be sure to let each coat flash off properly or else you will get blistering as gasses try to escape.
When I owned my S4 Monster I had a winter plan to fit a single sided swinger in it. I wrote it off before I got started. One Ducati mechanics opinion I never asked anyone else so it may not be correct was that the single sided swinging arm needed outrigger support. The 916/748 had it as part of the frame and the S4R monster had an elaborate footrest hanger that performed the role. You've done a cracking job though love the bike.
If you look at your Streetfighter you will see the frame is extended down and the Swinging arm bolt goes through the frame S/A and engine. The arm is supported on the inside by the engine and outside by the frame. It was explained to me that that the single sider twists more on the pivot bolt unlike a 2 sided arm where the forces are more evenly ditributed
Now you mention it I did wonder why the s4r monster had the swing arm axle bolts through the rear sets. It wouldn't be to much trouble to change mine to the same set up as a monster. I think I need to investigate this further just in case it's a safety risk. If anyones got any info on this could they please give your opinions on this. Thanks.
Now I know why black is so expensive to spray. It shows every tiny imperfection. So I rubbed it back with 800 wet and dry and filler primed it again. This has got to be about the 10th time I've done this. I wish I'd of counted the hours that I've spent on this back end, I'm sure it would be around 200 hours.
good job Final Adition but I'm a bit to far along to start welding the frame again. I've been looking at the radical Ducati site and they don't do any strengthening to there project bikes. I think I'll send an e mail to them asking if they have had any issues with twisting. I'm going to go down the monster rear set route because it's easier for me if there is an issue. I can't see it being an issue because the ST was made to handle so much extra weight, panniers with two up riding. The fairing alone weighed a tonne! Thanks for your input though I appreciate it.
Phillip, on your bike, where are the needle bearings, in the engine or swingarm? If in the SA, you will need some support on the ends, as the pivot bolt will hang/rub in the engine cases. You will need the S4R/S type rear-sets.
