St4 radical project

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by PHILLIPO, Aug 18, 2012.

  1. Getting there now with the tail section. So far so good.
First I masked off the centre section and the band around it.
Then sprayed primer so the black doesn't show through. Very thin and fine coat.
Then I masked off the outside band and sprayed the silver inner colour.
Just waiting for it to dry now before masking off the silver so I can spray the red band.

  2. Nice job, the one thing I can't do is paint. Hence why my Radical stuff is with my painter now!

  3. Next step was to mask up the silver and spray the red. I left it for about ten minutes and then pulled all the masking off while it was still soft. Then after an hour I two pack laquered it and shuuuutinnnng....... Sorted.
    Am I glad thats done.

  4. Ooh thats a nice job! Wish my skills with a can were as good

  5. +! lovely paint job, it's going to look the danglies when all on the bike together. Wish I could paint too!! :)
On the subject of swingarms, I'm putting a 748 swinger into a 999 frame. I think it'll all bolt thorugh the engine and frame without any mods, do you think I'm right there?

  6. I'm not sure about 998 tbh. I think the length may be different but I could be wrong. I new the monster swinger would fit cos the st engines are the same. I'd also check the wheel/shaft size before you commit to buying one.

  7. Look out for the shock mounting points on the swingers. the 748 is above the surface and the 999 has it below. This would need the shock, rocker and tie-rod looking into

  8. Cracking paint job! Keep up the good work !

  9. I do know that to fit a 748/916 S/A in an S4 Monster you either have to ream the crancase mounting hole out or use the kit made by Febur.

  10. You hit the nail on the head final_edition - I've been in touch with a guy in the USA who put a 998 SSSA on his 999 - it needed a custom tie rod and a custom shock as ther eis a 3-4 cm difference between the two models but otherwise it's s straight bolt on...sounds good to me. In the interim I just need to learn to paint like PHILLIPO :)

  11. Really getting there now. Just got to get new tires fitted to the s4 rims. Order a new chain and make a tail tidy for the number plate and indicators.

  15. I'm thinking of making a small belly pan but I'm not sure. What you guys think?

  16. If it was mine I wouldn't, it looks perfect as it is and all the belly pans I've seen just look like an afterthought?

  17. Paint scheme looks really ... grown up. I like it.

  18. At the moment it looks like it weighs 100kg wringing wet, adding a bellypan would just make it look fatter. I vote no, it looks great as it is.

  19. Yeah that's what I was afraid of tbh. I think I'll live with it for a bit and see what happens. Thanks guys.
