Starter button sticking

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Forest, Oct 20, 2013.

  1. I was curious if there might be a weak spring as part of the culprit. Will check out today, thanks.

  2. Disassembled the switch, cleaned with contact cleaner, stretched spring a little and reassembled with a dab of dielectric grease. Button movement feels much better, time will tell.

  3. Had mine replaced. Was within 3 months. Think there was a dodgy batch.

  4. Yeah mine was replaced under warranty, that was about 6 months old.

  5. Mine did the same, replaced no problem my14

  6. Yeah same here I have had a replacement but it still stuck after lots of heavy rain so had no choice but to try and fix it in the car park hence the post.

  7. I have had no issues with my start button since fixing it. Strange that dealers and ducati will continue to clean and lube or replace when there is a problem instead of just disassembling it and stretch the spring or provide a replacement spring of a little more tension or length.

  8. Yes had the same problem gave it a lube and been OK so far but dealer told me to bring it back any further probs. Did read somewhere on the forum and also in the hand book to always return the on/off switch to the open position. But they just sound like shit switches.

  9. I will have to check my manual for the default button position. Seems wierd to have it in the run position when parked. Dealer never mentioned that and in fact i was under the impression that you shut down the bike and leave it over the start button, same from 2 separate dealers.

  10. On the early bikes (mine included), there was a service action to alter the software, to flash a warning on the dash of "Red Switch Down", if it was left in the Off position as it caused the battery to drain very quickly.

  11. I'm thinking your right. I don't know if it's on all models but I have to push the switch down then release then push down it again to bring the steering lock on. and leave it down to help keep the button dry.

  12. On page 157 of my manual the title is "Indication of incorrect position of red starter button" . This seems to be talking about if the red button is stuck in the down position a warning will appear, within 60 seconds of shutting down engine, in the circular display saying the button is not released. The next page seems to state that this is a fault condition and should be checked by the dealer. Page 184 shows and explains the functions of the three positions of the red button. Center position, covering the start button, is the run off position. Engine cannot start and electronics are off.

  13. I get that warning it I switch off the bike and hold it down with out releasing it trying to put the steering lock on. I just release it first then hold it down.
