Stolen Multi

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by steve mac, Aug 26, 2013.

  1. Hi pal. Alarms are useless on vehicles especially when they have the keys which they will obtain from you using violence, threats of violence or just break in and nick them ! Best option is a tracker, bike trac is £299-00 and until they realise you have fitted one to the bike you have a window of opportunity to get your bike back plus catch the thieves red handed !!!!
Glad it's back with you pal!!!

  2. had a similar thing happen to me 30 years ago i had a malaguti cavalcone nicked from the garage recovered same day, got it back and it wouldn't start, checked the carb first noticed it looked a bit feckd inside and blew out the jets and burnt my lips badly, i think the feckers had put acid or costic soda in the tank. where do these people come from.

  3. Embarrassed to admit, but I actually work in the security industry dealing with metal theft and security issues for a utility company. My own security was a case of do as I say rather than as I do!

The cctv is a good form of verified alarm and as mentioned there are cheap systems on the market now that will cover a garage for little cost which I'll be looking into. I consider alarms on bikes to be more trouble than they're worth and would only install one if I had to due to insurance. As part of my work and for the bike I agree that the best bet is the use of a tracker, but I doubt I'll go along the lines of an insurance approved/notified one.

I'd want to know where my bike was rather than the police. I have to deal with these idiots and what they get away with as the police have insufficient evidence to charge, etc. They consider it all a bit of a game, so I'd rather deal with it, depending on the circumstances of course.

There's also the question of it being recorded as stolen recovered and the effect that will have on the trade in value, a double whammy of increased insurance premiums and a bike worth £1k+ less 3 years down the line even though it was only pushed 50m down the road in my case.

At the minute the bike is barricaded into the garage with a selection of kit I've borrowed from work until I get my own sorted.

Anyone else using a tracker, which one and your thoughts on it?

  4. Malaguti - another fine Bologna bike manufacturer. I always wondered if Malaguti and Ducati would do a tie-up deal, because their ranges are complementary (not overlapping) and many of their subcontractors and suppliers are the same. But no, at least not so far.

  5. certainly was the coolest 50 on the street, never ran right after the acid attack tho.
    tossers.

  6. It will only be recorded as stolen, if the ins. co. pay out on it.

  7. So you sacrifice the incredible experience of riding an incredible machine ... Sounds like a total cop-out and capitulation to the thieving gifts out there. You only live once but when the fat lady sings all you'll be able to say is "I never had an expensive bike nicked". Well done.

  8. I chain mine to a ground anchor with serious kit overnight, try to chain it to something solid when out with spare serious kit and have a Road Angel tracker fitted for pearce of mind (and a lower insurance premium ). Of course, when I borrowed a Diavel from a dealer, when my Multi was in for warranty work, it was nicked, and I will have to pay a huge insurance excess. It didn't have a tracker of course! And the police wouldn't even look at the CCTV footage because I gave them a two-hour window for the theft. They "don't have the resources" to look at more than twenty minuted of CCTV, apparently. Be warned!

  9. Are you talking about your own system or a public one ?

For my own system i have found the relevant time span, the police have viewed it on my system, then have copied it on to disc for them, and had to sign a statement and the disc to prove it was real, (otherwise they could take your DVR with the footage on)
