1200 Stolen Multistrada Alert

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Multi rider, May 8, 2014.

  1. Yup, that's the route to follow.

The supplier has a set time to respond to a satisfactory level else they have to log and report a statistic.

how to complain - the first steps

I have bypassed the supplier in the past and gone straight to FOS, but that was because Santander are utter arseholes to deal with and they 'lost' my hard-earned money and blamed it on another bank. I understood the systems and procedures involved far better than their customer service amoeba.

  2. Thanks for the support folks! I wrote an email to the CEO of Axa and got a call the very next day from their customer relations guy! Friendly fellow, sort of saw where I was coming from. Has passed it along to -a manager for review!
I know I will win this....

    It's just how long!

The insurer is confusing garaging/storage with parking! There is a clause stating the bike needs to be "kept" in a locked garage....no issue there except the word "kept" is I believe purposefully vague....vague so they can squeeze jo blogs when they need to!

There is no clause about where I can or cannot park, or when or at what time....

The issue one of you said about 500m from home also won't hold water as what would happen if you stopped off for a packet of fags at the shop 100 m from home on your way home and the bike got nicked....?

Was the bike then kept stored garaged or parked? It's all very unclear!

I was on the ombudsman site and they tend to put the clauses aside in such cases and look at what was trying to be achieved with the policy....the fact that my statement of fact reads "will the bike be kept in a locked garage overnight" and 2 pages further the policy says kept will I believe show that these clauses relate to storage and garaging and not to parking....

I actually wish it would go all the way as then it will be made clear to all motorcyclists ie a presedent would have been set!

In the meantime I'm now looking to insure my new 1995 m900 monster which is proving a challenge as I'm sure u will all understand. I have a problem paying 500£ for a 2000£ bike!

  3. It doesn't matter how cheap or expensive the insurance you will never know how good they are till it's too late
So you can't say don't go for the cheapest or most expensive, because you'll be had either way.

It's one of those things that we spend loads of dosh on but hope we'll never use it.

    Cynical,me, never.

  4. I feel for you
You don't need all this shit after your bikes been nicked

I hope you get it sorted soon without too much pain.

  5. I'm sure all will work out in your favour in the end Fritz, just a shame you (we) have to put so much time in to / work so hard for what we should be entitled to hassle free........mean time fingers crossed :D

  6. Great news! Brilliant actually! Banked my cheque from the insurance company today! After much stressing and complaining they eventually paid out, and what's more they paid 750£ (1000 less excess) more than what she was insured for! (Not sure how that works as I always thought that if you state the value of the bike on the insurance quote application then that is the value they will pay up to)?

Oh well I'm not complaining! Probably would not have got that value if I had of sold it myself!

    So what have we learnt!
Don't park your bike on the street....even if you think you live in a fairly good area, there's still evil bastards out there stealing your stuff!
Don't make a police report immediately....no matter how soffisticated they say they are, they are not capable or not willing to catch the crooks!
Wait, read the insurance documents then devise a better story before reporting! I should have said my bike was hoiked in Central London then I would not have had these issues!
Don't accept what the insurance say! Fight them! If they decline paying out for 10 stolen motorbikes and only 8 people complain then they have saved 20grand already!
Garaging and parking are two different things....there are no parking clauses in the insurance documents!
Make sure somewhere it stipulates that Garaging is overnight to cover yourself should your bike be hoiked off the street!

That's it from me folks! Sense and sensibility has prevailed in this case and once again I want to thank you all for your support....now if any one sees or hears of a 2010 mutley being sold with black sump covers, then pls let me know....there's a good chance it was mine....and trust me I would still like to find those f....ers!

  9. That's great news, great stuff. I lived in ruislip manor for a few years.

  10. Surely you would have to make a Police report if your going through insurance ? Isn't a crime number a prerequisite ?

Anyhow, really please you got the result you wanted and is a testament to perseverance.

  11. I'd say result, but its not, as it was what should have happened to start with!

  12. That is a good result for you mate! Happy that you got it sorted and received your cheque.

I am not entirely in agreement with you regarding devising the story. From my point of view when you buy a insurance read the policy and if something is not clear then ask for a written explanation. I know that most of us do not do that but not only insurance companies but every company will try to find that clause that will allow them to avoid costs, so it is better to be proactive than reactive.

  13. I agree.....adjusting your story on a loss could end in tears with them not paying out as they see 'holes' in the details or find contradictory info some way or another and then of course you could be facing a 'fraud' charge and will at least be named on an insurance black list!

  14. I agree with telling the truth, but look where it got me! I nearly did not get paid out because of being so honest! All I'm saying is read your documents before making a claim.... It's dog eat dog out there and in my experience u have to look after no1. After all the insurers are doing exactly the same to us!

  15. when are you buying your new one then

  16. Dave boy thanks for the enquiry....not sure I will be....probably won't be able to afford the insurance now! Not because the nc bonus has been reduced, (that seems to be the biggest insurance con Ncb that is), but because I now have a history of "at fault" theft....Ncb or no ncb doesn't matter!

  17. I fully agree with Multi.

I have two garages for two bikes. Each bike can only be insured for one garage at a time. There is the over night storage there. I have asked when taking policy what if bikes were swapped over night as obviously if I ride one then the other will have to stay in wrong garage as I had to get there.

Lady on phone hesitated so it got me investigating bit more.

In short if garages were less then 500m from each other they would not pay out (in my case it is 3.5 miles) and now they would pay minus excess. I argued a bit more saying that vehicle is garaged in garage they know of and approve of on the same policy. They had none of it.

All I managed to establish is if you were to put the bike in Police garage under arm guard, with automated one of these there set to kill

    triple_minigun.jpg

...and it got nicked you would still be treated as not garaged. Funny thing is technically having two garages lowers the risk as it is less likely they will brake in to both garages so far apart so only one bike is at danger at a time.

It is all about sentences left to interpretation on insurance policy. They leave them like that to have option to screw us over form a pay out. All I know if they can interpret it how they like then so can we.

That is why if worst comes to worst I will whip out my policy and start reading to formulated appropriate story matching the fact.

There is another person on UKMOC that knows of issues with insurance not paying out in that case bike was left at petrol station after fill up and it was pushed away. Well what next they will not pay out if you get bike jacked as vehicle was not secured?!

  18. i expect its unlikely allowed on a 10+k bike(never had one, never will) but my 2-5k bikes are insured as "kept on driveway",even though i often lock them up in garage, insurance is still sub £100 fully comp each for me on everything, the 1500 intruder, the mt01 and the duc st.....so far.

  19. I doubt you can set them to stun :)

Insurance companies are in league with Satan.

  20. Stun well probably no (then again thousands of rubber bullets ......) what you could do is make sure 1st bullet is a warning shot ............
