Stoner On Marquez

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Red899, Jun 15, 2022.

  1. Was about to write the same...
Not to mention one of those manufacturers never secured a title since. (even after employing 2 of the riders from that list)

  2. I loved watching Stoner. And Rossi. And Marquez. The only reason people disliked Stoner and Marquez is because they could both spank Rossi. The Rossetes didn't like that at all..... It reminded me Larry Holmes knocking seven bells out of Ali. Holmes' came under huge derision for battering the super popular former champ. Nonsense....

  3. Lorenzo, Marquez & Rossi did what Stoner hasn't -nor ever will- that was to win the championship over and over again (five times or more) under the immense pressure of media & public expectation. That has only been done by a very select few.

  4. Stoner couldn’t cope with the media and commercial commitments. All part of the package I’m afraid sunshine. Shame, he quit way too early. Would have been hilarious watching him and Marquez duking it out

  5. Did they, lorenzo didn't win on the Honda and stoner didn't ride the yamaha so not sure what Lorenzo won on that stoner didnt

  6. Retired long before his time. Undoubtably a huge talent.

Remember when he came back to test for Ducati and was ridiculously fast off of the bat. Madness

  8. Nope that's not true as i was a Casey fan especially when on that Ducati when he & Brightstone destroyed the field, and also Marc coming through the ranks in the gp classes, until that 2015 season.

  9. Well Casey should be derided for his bouffant hair, but his talent shouldnt really be disputed. I'm an unashamed Vale fanboy.

  10. They’re all epic.

Vale wasn’t in his prime racing against marquez. But still held his own. And did nearly break marquez mentally.

They’re all the best of their era. It’s like comparing Ali to Tyson.

I would have loved to have seen marquez on the Ducati though. His riding style is similar to that of Stoners..

  11. What's not true? I'm the fountain of all that is true. Now go and give yourself a dam good thrashing!

  12. I think there is a question over MM v VR.
take in to account where Rossi was finishing just 3-4 seasons back and his age/injuries.
Now look at MM with his age injuries.
    Not a fair comparison.
    Stoner, maybe.

  13. I'd have said that was the other way round. Started at Laguna Seca when MM did that move on him down the corkscrew. MM definitely did VR's nut in. VR seems to hate him. I wonder why

  14. #if you ever have a chance to watch the warm ups again from that race, MM practised that move well before the main race, Rossi's move was spontaneous.

  15. Fine. That was the beginning of the end for VR. He’d always won tussles up to that point. Biaggi, Giberneu, Lorenzo and Stoner. But MM raised the bar and conquered him. But that’s what happens, the youngsters come through. Can’t be top dog forever.

  16. Not really as that was in 2013, Rossi was still in with a chance to win the 2015 season, but i do agree he wasn't dominating the racing season but could still be up at the front chipping away.
Certainly there was a changing of the guard as you've mentioned, it's all water under the bridge now........Rossi's name has gone down in history like no other.

  17. I actually met VR in a restaurant near Jerez. I didn’t bother him for selfies or handshakes. The poor sod must get agitated to death over that sort of stuff. But my mate did! VR was a total gentleman and accommodating with all the fuss surrounding him. No cameras, no press or reporters etc, seemed a genuine nice bloke.

  18. Yep you only have to look at all the vr46 merchandise victims still dominant in the crowds at every round still, I doubt you will see anywhere near as much 93 merch after hes gone (or even while hes still riding).

  19. If your putting money into his pocket then for sure he's nice.;)

  20. Very different animals in my opinion, Marc & Honda set out their stall from day one in a very aggressive manner to dominate & bag the silverware at any cost.
Both a product of their time with huge talent, but Rossi more personable.
