Trouble is, if they didn't race in the same era, you can't compare. It's just opinions . And we all have one of them. Now , Lorenzo, rossi, and stoner raced against each other, on the same bike at one time or other. I think stoner had the beating of Lorenzo and rossi, marquez might have been a different story, I don't know. Stoner definitely got a lot of shit cause he beat rossi. Especially after that comment when he said his ambition out weighed his talent. Because that's exactly what happened. Now I know I'm gonna get hammered by rossi fans
Nah, I think folks are forgetting Stoner stuck it on pole in just his second Motogp start….on a privateer bike. This in an era when Factory electronics elevated riders to “alien” status when in all likelihood it was only the “alien (Factory TCS) technology” that put them there. He was special, and proved it with his switch to Honda. He was literally in another league on his switch to Factory Honda. It wasn’t the monster hp Ducati…it wasn’t the Bridgie’s….it was him, and he looked likely in his second year…until his Indy ankle injury. Hard to comprehend these days….who has been immediately successful changing manufacturers? Who has gone on to absolutely dominate a championship in the way Stoner did after changing bikes? And this is why, for only winning 2 x Motogp world championships he’s considered one of the greats, and it’s well deserved. (this from a Kiwi who would happily throw an Aussie under the bus)
The debate should be about them at their peaks. Vale was on his downward slide when he came across Casey, Jorge and Marc. Same but to a lesser extent for Jorge encountering Marc. I think peak Vale, Casey, Jorge and Marc would be a snuff movie. I wouldnt like to place a bet. But I'd edge out Casey and Jorge in the 1st round and Vale and Marc would prob take each other out on the next. Leaving Dani to nick it. If Marco had still been around to develop, boy that woulda been fun with Marc. Its all ifs and buts but theyre all legends and deserving of alien status.
