Stoner thread too.......

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Il Presidente, Sep 18, 2013.

  1. CS won't be back.

He won't fancy MM as an opponent or a team mate.

As for him crashing a lot, I used to call him crashy Stoner when he was on the Gresini Honda, but he said he could not get on the the tyre.

Lorenzo crashed a lot first season in GP, as did many others.

As has been said. They crash, they learn. Maximum respect to these guys.

  2. Oh, believe me there's no lack of respect from me for Stoner's riding ability, one of the all-time greats. Only one of them, though.

  3. Don't they all believe they're the fastest though, I bet CS would like to kick his arse....

  4. hes probably the best suited to the task, itd make an awesome spectacle

  5. I honestly think Marquez would leave Stoner a broken man; that boy seems to have every base covered, I can't see any rider getting the better of him regardless of their former glories.

  6. nahh.
hes good but not that much better or worse than the next man

  7. Who, Marquez?

He's leading the motogp in his rookie year, to such an extent he need not win another race to clinch it. That's not good..?

  8. We'll have to disagree on that one, Stoner could regularly leave the field for dead in the race and during qualifying. MM is doing similar but not far and away better.

When Stoner won his 2nd title on the Honda he absolutely nailed everybody, it was soul destroying for them. Nobody had an answer for him and his shear pace was just mental. The 2nd year wasn't as good but half way through he'd decided he was off and they had issues with the bikes for a while.

i think Stoners probably the only one who you could bet on, Lorenzo is a a close 2nd.

itd still be close though and by no means a mm walkover

  9. I'm not so sure. Riding styles differ, obviously - Stoner preferred to break his opponents early doors and scarper, but if the racing stayed close he was by no means guaranteed the win, in fact he seemed to hate mixing it.

Marquez on the other hand is happy to bide his time, but always seems to have enough in reserve to get done what he wants to get done, and demon overtakes are his speciality. He's broken Pedrosa, you can clearly see that, and I don't remember him looking so dejected after racing with Stoner.

I think we've a lot more to see of Marquez.

  10. For me Stoner is one of my all time favourite riders and even I think MM would beat him more often than not. Personally, I dont think Stoner will come back, but my word if he does......:upyeah:

  11. Doohan used to prick tease and torment his opponents on every corner..show them the front wheel, do a dummy move on the inside, back off and sit on their arses..then mug them..assuming he hadnt already scarpered. He taught Rossi this tactic, who employed to devasting effect with everybody.
Some riders win from the front, some cant or wont mix it up, some just get stuck in. MM is from the Doohan/Rossi school, ie, not giving a monkeys...Dani and even stoner dont like mixing it up too much..they always used to complain and get scared (cant blame them really)..JR to his credit has had his moments, but he's a bit like Foggy and Stoner...would rather just get gone.
I agree with Matt (bugger!)..i think he has broken Dani's spirit..he looked on the verge of tears after silverstone, and was seriously dejected after Misano..ive never seem him look so down...i think he knows (or has given up) that he will never win the title..its just too frantic with too many new kids on his heels...
JL isnt having any of it..i think he's scared of MM, but his sheer pride will not let him take any crap...He hasnt got that world champ status or aura for some reason..dont know why..i guess its because he's so smooth and punters dont appreciate the skill of that consistency..Stoner being the wild man on track was more exciting to watch....
Lets face it, Marquez is odds on to win it unless Jorge can spoil the party...when they happens (MM victory) i feel that the spiritual torch will have been passed from Vale to Marquez, and no one in park ferme wants that to happen..coz if he wins in his first season, he may just well be unassailable for the next ten bloody years!!

  12. Very true all that.

The difference with Lorenzo and Pedders though is that Marquez is on the same bike as the latter. He's just showed up in the class and is whipping him on the same equipment. There is nothing for Pedders to smile about. Jorge has at least the get out of thinking that if he had a Honda he could beat the kid. Pedders knows he has no excuse. It's horrible for him.

Lorenzo may not like it but it might not destroy him whereas for Pedders it's the end.

  14. its certainly tough at the top...i guess the enormous wealth, adulation, prestige and endless procession of banging the arses off 10's day in, day out is cold comfort...thats his cross to bear..thank god im not an elite motorcycle racer...i dont think i could take the pressure..
signing off..ive got to be up in the morning.

  15. one last thought...

its amazing to think that Marquez's father didnt blow his Mum's pelvis out with the force of his ejaculation....that little the pre-zygote Marc must've been one fast fkr even when swimming around in his Dad's piss sack.

    Tone suitably lowered.
    Good night

  16. realistically if stoner came back tomorrow it would be 1 year before he had the bike to his liking.

MM is fab, dont get me wrong. but he is not head and shoulders above the next man.

Things have clicked for him, no doubt. .. made easier by electronic aids......

but i just love that honda engine rasp..

  17. I don't think the table really tells the tale of this season. Marquez is quick and exceptionally talented no doubt, but he has been lucky this season with injuries sustained by Lorenzo and Pedders. That being said I didn't hold out much hope for Pedders this season even though on paper he should have probably been looking at the title. I have just never been convinced by him, he has the talent but just seems to lack that little extra edge that's needed.

As for Lorenzo, him and Marquez are tied for race wins this season so far. If it hadn't been for the races where Lorenzo didn't race and raced injured and it would be a lot closer.

  18. Jorge can't spoil the party; even if he wins all the remaining races Marquez only needs to finish on the podium to secure the title.

Jeez, what does a racer have to do to appear special to you? The boy is romping the aliens in the premier racing class in his rookie year, for fuck sake. Sure, Stoner won the title first time out on the honda, but he was a seasoned motogp veteran by then, Marquez is pissing it with no previous experience - he's only ever going to get better. That seems pretty fucking special to me.

  19. Stoner: "I wanted to feel the power in my right hand"

Mmm, I used to do that every night as a teenager but stopped when my mum said it would make me go blind.

  20. ...who said that....

MM would be able to ride that thing with or without electronics as well as anyone else. Would have taken a little longer, but not a lot, as he just seems to have an almost instant level of feel. But don't all the top racers to some extent

Stoner ran away before he could get duffed up. He doesn't like it tough in the trenches, and would quit half way thru the season (again!) if its not going his way. On same equipment, Rossi would have taken his titles and if Yam had improved a bit quicker so would Jorge. Great rider, terrible champion and average to racer
