Stoner to retire

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by bigleggy3, May 17, 2012.

  1. How do you work that out?

Ffs. How does Switzerland pay for its roads and public services?

Do you think it all drops out the sky like manna from heaven?

The Swiss do pay tax, just not income tax. It's a different country, they do things their way. The Germans pay about £40 a year in Council tax. Deal with it.

  2. thats a top ride for someone, who would you like to see on it? probably go to Marquez ,but nice to see Cal have a go

  3. Similarly disappointed, but I can understand it.

He gets dogs abuse on many fora, booed at the UK GP, slated by Philip Morris and Honda can't be arsed to fix the chatter, the way Ducati couldn't be arsed to fix the D16. Meanwhile Dorna continually screw the rules up, driving out Kawasaki, Suzuki, Michelin and Dunlop along the way.

A real shame. I would have liked to have seen him on the Yamaha next year, with JL on the Honda.

  4. Some say he's now got all the money he needs for life.I've got no idea. Any idea how much he earns or has earned in last few years?

  5. Don't think he got much from Ducati, he signed for 2yr after being a crashing rookie.

  6. Mentioned this on here about a month ago, now it's announced.

Still shocked as I think he's got plenty of titles in him, I'd bet good money he'll be back in a few years.

Im upset as he truly is at the top of his games, but he's boring and the racing is boring currently.

  8. Well he wont have made as much external sponsorship money as he might have. I expect that will be someone else's fault though.

  9. Who do you think will get is berth ?
Isn't Lorenzo out of contract end of this year. That would leave a big hole at Yamaha, you see where i'm going.

Fair play to Stoner though. It's obviously become more of a job and less of a calling so why not live life in your prime years with your family if the money is there.

Makes him extra hard to beat this year as you know he wants to go out as champ.

  10. What a shame, whilst I am not a fan in the sense I would wear Stoner kit (got a few 46 items), whether you like him or not, you have got to recognize his talent, and for that reason it is a crying shame that he is going to be gone. It will always be a question that will be talked about in years to come about how many world titles he could or could not of won had he carried on. :frown:

  11. Do not know that just confirms CS did it cash VR does it as he likes it, he got more cash and more long term income from sponsorship yet he keeps on going. All that after he started paying tax. Re Switzerland if it was the same there as anywhere else sport celebrities would not go to live there.

  12. I knew he'd retire early but I'm surprised it's this early. I reckon there's a pretty high chance he'll be back, he could race at the top level for another ten years! Look at Bayliss going out after winning the title again. As others have said, there'll always be the nagging thought of how many titles could he have won. That he is an exceptional talent is no doubt, that the Ducati wasn't the best tool in the paddock to be on yet he won on it is no doubt either. Look at him since being on the Honda:

    Season 1 (18 Races):

    12 Pole positions
    7 Fastest laps
    16 podiums (incl wins)
    10 Race wins

In the two races he didn't finish on the podium he was taken out in Jerez and was leading Malaysia by a country mile when the race was cancelled (RIP SuperSic) so no result for anyone.

Season 2 (3 races to date):

    1 Pole position
    1 Fastest lap
    3 Podiums (incl wins)
    2 Race wins

So, in short, since he stepped on the Honda he has only not finished a race when he's been taken out or the race was cancelled, not bad for a 'crasher'. Every race finish has been on the podium with 12 of those on the top step. Impressive.

The series will be poorer without him.

  13. I don't think he's ever been paid really big numbers. He'll be doing well at Honda but I don't think he's never been about the money and as he wants to live on a farm and go fishing, maybe do some V8Supercar racing (he was pretty quick when he trialled Lowndes' car, just like Bayliss was) and hang out with his missus and kid. Good on him. He's paid his parents back, earned enough to live a comfortable lifestyle, set himself up to still earn a lot more money to keep it coming in and as he's no longer enjoying it and at the top of his game why not go and do something else. He could race V8s in Australia for the next 20 years and earn good coin. He could sit in his boat and catch fish while the interest on his cashola keeps the family fed and clothed. I'm supremely jealous.

And at the end of the day, if I had a missus wwho looked like his I'd never want to leave home either!

  14. Some of you guys need to take a good look at yourselves, your lives and your attitude to money. At the moment some of you are coming across as very shallow individuals.

What are your priorities in life?

Money is not everything, there are more important things. Good on Stoner for recognising what is important to him.

  15. Thanks TP.

Excellent article and right on the money IMHO

  16. I think Honda should release him from his contract now.

  17. Casey Stoner went big, and at the end of the year, he's going home. - motomatters

The greatest talent of a motorcycle rider to of ever graced a track bar none, I'm absolutely gutted.
He may not have the titles as the media luvvy VR but on any given day at any given time with an equal bike I know where my money would always be.

Casey stoner always went big, he demolishes tracks and champions with pure unadulterated bottle and super natural pace, I don't care for sound bites, cutesy gestures waved at the screen or ridiculous theatrical celebrations, I'm in this for the love of the sport and to watch the very greatest riders on the planet.

The greatest talent is hanging up his boots...... Casey, you'll be sorely missed

Legend status you'll have with or without the titles
