Blimey, I'm tired. quite a storm last night which woke me up several times, brief lull this morning, just had another thunderstorm storm with torrential rain, now light rain with some thunder rumbling in the distance. And it is still very humid!! This evening we are going to a birthday garden party, hmmm - the invite did say bring your wellies!
I love a good storm with thunder and lightning, reminds you of your place in the universe. Humans have a tendency to think that their existence is important, and that we have some semblance of control over our destinies. The reality is of course, that we are all at the mercy of uncontrollable forces, and our lives could be snuffed out in a second. Stayed up for a couple of hours last night looking at the lightning, but it was a long way away and I didn't get what I was hoping for. I was in the epicenter of the mother of all storms on the west coast of India one night in 1996 in the middle of monsoon season. Initially I was thoroughly enjoying the majestic sight of spheres of lightning dropping vertically downwards towards the sea and then splitting into horizontal shards, the strikes were so frequent it was more light than day, and the some of the locals were screaming in fear. The intensity of the wind bending the coco nut trees over continued to increase and the sound of thunder was deafening and I was convinced something had gone badly wrong and we were all about to die. Love a good storm me.!
thanks! We're coming into Cherbourg for a change - the Condor ferry had an 'accident' so been moved to Brittany ferry luxury from Poole -
