V4 Streetstrada, Panistrada, Stradagale Or Stradafigher?

  1. Not sure where you are getting this idea from. Yes I’m ‘old’ but the bike is expensive, has cheap suspension components and a seat height of 35”. Younger riders can’t afford it, it’ll be a shit ride with the crap suspension and no-one I know would be able to flat foot. What’s the point ? Andy

  2. I must admit, I’m disappointed after seeing the new single. The price is ludicrous, and the components cheap, compared to similarly priced bikes in the Ducati range. By the time you’ve put a few options on the RVE, it’s more expensive than a three month old low mileage 950SP.

  3. I've read quite a few posts recently where members mention their age , and it surprised me !
I always thought that I was one of the older ones on here , but it appears not to be so ....:)

Maybe I should start a poll ? ..... it might be interesting .

As a young biker I had a BSA C15 which was about as much as I could afford as a student .
From the minute I first saw a Pantah ( and later the Hailwood Replica ) I wanted one , more than anything ,
but the purchase price , cost of maintenance , and eye-watering insurance costs made it impossible .

The passing of years , and greatly increased mechanical skills have made those factors fairly irrelevant now
..... except for the insurance companies ..... they are still a bunch of scrotum-biters ......:joy:

  4. How do you know the suspension is crap? Just because it doesn't have a gold Ohlins sticker on the side it doesnt mean its crap.
Jumping to conclusions without any knowledge IMHO.
And i reiterate, its not aimed at people like us.

Youngsters have an odd idea of what's affordable.
Happy to spend £100 per month on a phone or £100+ on a night out but them say they can't afford this that and the other.

  5. Experience. 2 big issues for European motorcycle manufacturers, EU taxation of outsourced non EU manufactured components and volumes required. The price of everything Ducati buys in, is negotiated to a budget, makes absolute commercial sense. However, restricting the budget means the manufacturers skimp on the quality of the components they use, yes, even Öhlins, who use plastic components for Ducati that they don’t build into their own retailed units. This compromises the performance of the finished product. I have (and have had) motorcycles with Marzocchi and Sachs suspension and they are both very run of the mill but can they churn the stuff out in quantity. Andy

  6. I love the look of the Mono and was tempted to have one last blast on a Supermoto having had a few in the past, best of which was a Husaberg 650, 73bhp and 108kgs was an absolute blast but, at that price I can't justify it. The main competitors in that league are KTM and Husqvarna, their prices are not much less so it looks like they've pitched it about right.

No they don't. They just have different priorities to their equivalent age group of 30-40 years ago.

  8. Nothing wrong with the Marzocchi semi active on my V4S. Works exceptionally well.
The only way to get better suspension is to make the bike even more expensive. You already stated it cost too much.

  9. I think Andy’s point is that it’s too expensive bearing in mind the components the bike comes with. I wonder what profit margin they make on the new bike???

  10. Yes but add more expensive components and the price of the bike increases further unless Ducati want to reduce their margins.
It’s not just about margins on components and whole bikes, r and d will be the biggest investment in a bike with a new engine.

  11. Good point. It’s just too close in price to the 950 to make it a viable option, for me anyway. If it was around £10k for the RVE, I’d have considered downgrading to release a bit of cash (to probably put towards buying another bike!), but I’d probably walk away with about a grand, and be on a much lower spec bike, so for me it’s a non starter.

  12. Is it me, or has it all gone a bit ‘Daily Mail’ in here today?

  13. I am delighted that my post has generated such a discussion as has been going. Nice to see something other than political rhetoric that expresses views both compelling and thoughtful....... especially with regards to newly released motorcycles

Also nice to know that there are riders in the same "geriatric" class as I. The two Desmo Owners Clubs I belong to seem to have nothing but 30 and 40 - somethings. Perhaps because these are now the "peak earning years" for many and a "target" for the Borgo Panigale company ( amongst others).......

  14. Calm down guys.

This is only the very first model of the new series of singles.

No doubt in coming years various models will be revealed; sports, adventure, touring, cruiser, scrambler, with single engines of various power outputs. And at various price points.

The list price of this first model has to allow headroom for later discounting, not to mention warranty claims. If it's too dear for you, just wait a year or two until a model more to your taste (or pocket) is released.

  15. I bought a 2022 MSV4S Sport last year. Had never planned to own a duck. I'm 69 and figure I have ten more years of riding left in me. I don't buy things for 'others' just myself. So buy what you feel is right for you, who TF cares how others feel? I write for Web Bike World, so this piece may help you...or not. Either way enjoy what you purchase.

  16. Ducati don’t offer discounts. Other than that, you’re quite correct.

  17. Good article :upyeah:

  18. I really enjoyed the read, thanks. You should probably write the user manual for Ducati. I learned stuff :).

I was curious about your experience with a lower ABS setting and brake feel. The one point of the MS I can’t say is brilliant is the initial brake feel, I know it’s a weighty machine but it lacks bite and the feel is a bit on the soft side. I have upgraded pads and dealer has recently bled the fronts. Considering the hardware in play I expected more. But, I have not played with the ABS as I couldn’t see how that could make any difference to the bite of the brakes ? I mean it’s not even going to do anything until it detects some slip I thought.

  19. They do sometimes. ;)

  20. I just turned 70, and traded in my 1200s Multi for a new v4s. It is an amazing machine- much more comfortable that the old multi- In fact, had a 475 mile ride home the day I got it- mostly empty roads, and used the new cruise control quite a bit- was not tired or sore in any way when I got home- You are going to love it- Also- plan on a day or two just gettng new tech set up and understood!!
