  2. Unfortunately for me my BMW dealer is my Ducati dealer :Shifty:

  3. I have just sold my 2013 mutley to buy a BMW XR and I agree with you it isn't the best looking bike, but I remember when the the 1200 came out and the reaction to the styling wasn't accepted by everyone!

I will say this though there is only one view of the XR I really can say I don't like and that is the front view.

But when I ride it it's bloody fanastic! My opinion!

I had 2 multistrada 1200s and whilst they never let me down, I have lost faith in Ducati to build a reliable bike! Issues that where on the original bike haven't been addressed(fuel senders!). I know this in its self isn't a big thing but not sorting out the rear brakes is!

I just couldn't commit more money on a premium bike that still has a poor reliability record! To be fair I am early in my BMW career and only time will tell.

I will be the first one to stick my hand and say if the Beemer is a mistake!

  4. Have to say just spent the last 2 days using the loan MS1200s and problems aside and having owned every other so called Adventure bike except the XR the DVT is awesome, for me a bike should excite you even before you ride it and Ducatis in the main do that then when you ride it they seal the deal,Bought one of the new Africa Twins what a pile of shite that was build quality was awful totally uninspiring the problem is they all have there own problems

  5. I am lucky in the fact I have a gorgeous little 748 too look at so I still get my fix from that. And looks are a personal thing, what you would accept is not the same as I would accept.

The DVT is a really great looking bike and I rode a demo last year and more recently a friends bike, the brake lever almost trapped my fingers as the lever almost came back to the bar! Also it has been well documented about the vibrations on the BMW which I don't have on my bike but the DVT vibrated thru the seat heavily! Which I didn't expect or like!

Do you not think that by Ducati developing the DVT system they have taken some of the Ducati "character" that everyone loves out of the Ducati!

  6. The Multi is great looking. Like an angry for sex supermodel. Italian design at its best.
The XR is ugly, but when you ride it you discover great sex, not with a supermodel, but with a porn star - trained to blow your mind.
And for me looks came second...

  9. Well so far on my 15 model DVT

    Fuel sender - replaced

Seat coming apart - seat cover staples came out - resemble Rexel No 56 staples!!! to be sorted

Front discs warped - to be sorted

The 2 orange warning lights at the bottom for the dash (A) and (!) which should go off when you pull off have stayed on a couple of times indicating a fault (anyone else had this? ) Riders say the computer is showing " an implausible fault" what the hell is that ?

    Side stand replaced on recall

Apart from that (lol) still loving it but patience is running a bit thin - only the dealer service is keeping me at the moment

  10. Which branch Franksie ?

  11. Riders of Bristol, not a bad bunch of guys and patient as I seem to moan a lot at the moment, about the bike that is not them :)

  12. I have now got rid of my DVT due to the constant problems. Eg. Failed exhaust valve twice, the second time requiring a new silencer. Engine cutting out, did this regularly throughout my half year of ownership, dealer was unable to find a problem. There were other issues, but those were the main ones. Also I couldn't believe how crap the rear brake was and the general build quality was poor.

I have got myself a GS after test riding the S1000XR again, and also a GS. The XR was a little too crazy for me, couldn't take it on a long ride, and didn't like the vibes, right in the cruising rev range. I am very happy with the GS. The build quality is completely different and after a month on a GS forum, owners hardly complain of issues and there are a lot more GSs out there.

As an example of build quality, see this picture below of the GS exhaust valve. Protected by a plastic shield, with the cables that operate it also in plastic sleeves. The DVT valve is completely exposed.

When I had my DVT, I told the dealer that I was taking it abroad and was worried about doing so due to lack of faith in the bike. The dealer suggested I bring it in for a pre tour inspection and that it was always a good idea to do this. When I bought my GS, I asked the dealer if I should get a pre tour inspection done, and they looked at me funny and said, why on earth do you want to do that?! Shows the level of confidence they have in their products.

The bike inspires confidence and handles surprisingly well. The only negative is the GS is slower, it doesn't go mental at about 6/7000 rpm, but a lot of this lack of speed is made up for by the quickshifter.

Overall, very disappointed with my Ducati experience. I hope other owners don't feel the same way.

  13. Good luck with the GS Eton. I traded my 15 Multi for a GSA just over a month ago and have managed over 2000 miles on it in that time. I only managed 4000 miles on the Multi in a full year as it was always at the dealers getting 'fixed'. The BMW has so far been 100% reliable and a complete joy to own in comparison to the Ducati. 2 of my mates have DVT multis and have had far less trouble than I did, although they have done less than 2K so far, but 1 of them has now discovered that a build fault has caused the rear mud guard to contact the wheel rim and has stripped off all the paint around the wheel in the contact area. He has been waiting for over 2 weeks for this to be sorted by the dealer despite being told not to ride it in the meantime... needless to say he is not best pleased. His bike has also recently started to idle all over the place just like mine did before it started dying whenever the clutch was pulled in...:anguished:

  14. Thanks Splitforit. Yes I remember reading about your change. Forgot to mention mine was idling all over the place as well. Dealer had no idea which means Ducati have no idea. Love the GS. Hated the Multi.

  15. Going to be a much emptier faultistrada section of the forum if they keep making bikes like this.

It's like they have a Michelin star chef and a perfect recipe, yet are knocking out petrol station sandwiches with cheap ingredients and charging west end London prices for them.

  16. Have to say mine is still working fine after 2500 miles. Maybe that means I can sell it for more?! Lol

  17. I have a 2015 Dvt, 1100 miles, with no problems thus far, really like the bike
But I must be honest, I'm a bit worried about something going wrong, after reading all this, I'll be even more worried once the warranty is up !
If I didn't love the experience of riding it, I would of tested the Gs & Xr & possibly got rid I think!

  18. So far at 4000 miles

    Fuel sensor fault
    ICU sensor fault
    Seat replaced
    Front discs warped
    Heat grips fault
    Side stand replaced

There was something else but can't remember, all fixed under warranty and dealer has been great but worries me what will happen outside of warranty, can I and do I want to have to replace it every two years once warranty runs out, I do love it but there is a limit before you just throw in the towel. I still cannot believe that a brand that sells at a premium can get Quality so wrong yet still keep a loyal customer base.

  19.
  20. Mines five n half thousand on , not had single fault must be lucky cause this is my third and all trouble free, this DVT slightly less urgent than my last 13 pikes but does everything really nice, only mods done 14 tooth front. Must admit only keep em in warranty period and would agree bm a much better bet long term, but they just dont do it for me I'm afraid !
