Super Corsa Road Suitability

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by WhichBike, Apr 18, 2015.

  1. SCs are great in the dry. Poor on the wet but fine (like any tyre) if you take it easy.

  2. I used to use SC's exclusively on my 848, R1 & ZX6R. They would have gone on the KTM 990 SMR had it not been nicked. I ride 75-25% dry-wet (won't go for a blast in it but not afraid to be caught out).

It was the steep profile I liked about them. No mucking about just straight on your ear. When I did use them in the wet I found they gave surprisingly good grip and feedback. I hate dunlops with a passion. All about faith over feel. Michelin is another I wouldn't go back to because I had such a bad time on the ninja's stock BT-016's. Constantly lost the front in corners, only for it to regrip after an inch or 2 of sliding. SC's made me love that bike again.

  3. I run SuperCorsas on nearly all of my bikes, nothing compares in my opinion.

This is midway through several thousand miles on SuperCorsas and a couple days of super heavy rain! They are admittedly bloody awful on twisties in the rain and I bought Rosso Corsas on the way home from Italy, but to be honest whilst they performed well, I really missed the excellent feel of the SuperCorsas, and have just changed back again. The RossoCorsas have noticeably less feel, but they do seem to perform almost as good and they last a lot longer.

By the sounds of the riding you are doing perhaps Rosso Corsas will be a better bet, if you are doing a lot of all weather riding then perhaps even consider the Pirelli Angel GT? Miss Pineapple had them on her GSXR through Italy and she could carry loads more speed through the twisties in the wet than I could nursing my worn out supercorsas across Passo della Futa!

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  4. You don't need tyres and a motorcycle in that weather, you need a boat :Wideyed:

  5. Cheers guys, a mixed bag of likes and dislikes but the underlying feeling seems to be the style of riding that one employs which still points to me getting more suitable tyres for my ability and intentions.
At worse, I will get new tyres (metzlers seems to be the shout of the moment) and keep the SCs back should I take to the track.

    Many thanks..

  7. Haha I was thinking something similar but wasn't sure if the post was just a joke that I wasn't getting!!?

  8. As dementor what SCs and standing water do at 100mph...I know because I had the same outcome ;)

  9. Depends when youre using it.....my rsv4 came with a knackered set of SC's on it so I never really got to see how they felt...as it was my first ever bike with fairing I went for some Bridgestone BT something's (I cant remember what they were as they were so crap, so crap in fact I took them off after a month) I then thought "fuck it, never used premium rubber before" and hedged for a new set of sc's - wow - what a difference, wore them out last year at the tt and when it came to change them I read the reviews and thought a set of m7rr's were the ticket (as id been caught in the rain not intentionally on the sc's and I would say they were dangerous...) - M7's were no where near as good so took them off (almost brand new) and put them on my zed and just put another set of SC's on the RSV4.....ready for the TT!

  10. [emoji106] comfysofa - I'd rather wear a school uniform and bend over in front of Adam Johnson than ride with another set of Bridgestones. Dunflops too.

  11. Yep - If I put another set of bridgestones on they'll have to be giving them away for free....I cant see anything yet that beats the sc's (cos theyre so good im quite happy to put up with getting caught out in the rain) for the performance you get in the dry...

  12. Try them at cold to mid temps with bike on its ear Not Much Fun , there shite most of the time unless it's 18* or warmer then they are good , trouble is our country's weather is shite most of the time , hence M7 rr's .

  13. Nope no joke Bradders and alecr ive found the the grip in the wet amazing.

Maybe it was conditions as it was nice and dry summer day on my favourite roads so tyres well warm and then the heavens opened up.Isnt it better to hang off the bike in the wet and use your bodyweight rather than really lean the bike over.I was gobsmacked at just how good they seemed to me in the wet and by far the best ive felt for feel and confidence in wet conditions.Almost like riding in the dry with smooth riding and progressive throttle. No tc on the sps.

On the motorway is was absolutely pissing it down and I was getting absolutely fecking soaked. After a while I thought fuck this so kept up a decent speed. Not mad but filtered on the white lines a bit (naughty naughty) as folks were fecking doddering about doing 40 mph in the fast lane.Again no wheel spinning or hairy moments as supercorsas felt great with lots of feedback.

The only time ive found the supercorsas shit is in cold winter temps if its a bit damp or wet.But this can be good as the lack of feel makes me take it really steady.

All road use no track.Surely a well set up bike helps when its wet also.

  14. Fine on damp but can't clear water, simple mechanics of how they are made.

As alluded to above, we were heading back from germany, pouring rain and lots standing water. Hit the same bit at same time, about 160kmh, full lock stock aquaplane, across three lanes, chassis sorted it before we could do anything. I confess, i had been picking a spot and did a goodbye speech in my head before it was sorted.

They suit 18deg plus dry roads and are awesome

  15. I had my bike out on the road in January February damp conditions dont drive like a nut job and they are fine, also took bike to work ambient temp 7 degrees still no drama's but wasnt giving it beans till I had done 5ish miles and tires warmed up a bit and they were fine, @triari when did we get out to Loomies early march ? wasnt exactly warm and we had a proper blast. Wait till you have worn it out then swap to something else if you're really bothered.

  16. Ive had a look at my supercorsas and there is loads of tread pattern to shift any water and day I got my knee down in the wet there were large puddles about so not just slightly damp.

The only part missing any tread to shift water seems to be the very outer edge of the tyre im talking the outer 10mm.If you are getting a bike on the roads that far over in very wet conditions then you do indeed have rossi like skills.I just hang off and stick me knee out.

I agree with cupid stunt mine have been fine all year round as I ride through the winter in colder temps also.

  17. Loads of tread? There is a short 'tick' just off centre and the rest is slick. And the cut is narrow and shallow.

  18. I went out yesterday for first 1199 ride of the year and couldnt belive how hot my rear supercorsa got. I was riding quite steady if im honest and it was loads hotter than even when i used to rag the 848. Tyre pressures were done before leavng so maybe the heat from the exhaust?

  19. Bonus :upyeah:

  20. @matt#corse I am talking about these (top pic)
