As to the reason that motors run better in cool/damp conditions? It's because the oxygen molecules shrink in the cold, so your motor can draw in more oxygen which gives you a bigger bang.
Back in the days when carb's were king there was always a different setting for cold/damp weather to gain the optimum performance.
The colder the weather the bigger the main jets and the opposit/smaller when it was hotter.
Motor's run at their best (usually) with a ratio of 14 parts air to 1 part fuel.

All taken care of by the Mass Air Flow sensor and O2 sensor in a modern fuel injection system.

It's NOT Methanol chap it's Ethanol that's causing the problems with the rubber seals, hoses etc in the fueling systems.
Methanol was known as "Dope" and was used in alcohol burning motors like speedway bikes or drag racers, it actually allows for a higher state of tune, like comp' ratios, igniton advance to be used and the motors run a lot cooler than those run on petrol.
I can overcome the effect of ethanol on the fueling system by replacing parts with ethanol resistant parts, it's a PIA but I can (and do) do it.
Those amongst us who're running GRP or Carbon fuel tanks, have either now or in the not too distant future a lot of trouble coming their way as their tanks start to melt from the inside and then leak...
OEM Ducati plastic fuel tanks have been up shit creek in the USA for soem time as the States insists on increasing the Etahnol levels in their fuel.
What I'm interested in when tuning a motor is the octane rating, as too low a rating results in pre ignition/pinking which is the death nell for a tuned/high performance motor.
It's for this reason that full on race bikes use either branded race fuel or Avgas, as these have a much higher octane rating/resistance to pre ignition than pump fuels.
Of course using these fuels is impractical for tuned road going motors, which is why I (and many others) tune the road going motors using the best available pump fuel, which as I've already posted is undisputedly (in the UK) Shell V Power.
