They got some balls putting it back on the bay, almost taking the Mickey out of the others that bid bid on it. The way things are going I think I had better up the value on the insurance!!!
well, its their loss, if they'd have had Al's stands them they would have had people beating their doors down.. as it is they'll just have people calling them wankers.
Seriously they brought that bike and have put it back on sale for over 6 grand!!!!!!!! How sad ... Bet someone would have cherished that ... And now it's stupidly priced!! Bloody chancer!
I saw this listing very soon after it was posted and could not believe it. It's been niggling at me since then. First, a bit of a preamble. I know it is hard enough these days to make a living so I don't take it lightly to speak negatively about someone. People could say if you don't like the price then don't buy it. ----------------------------------------- But, the comments of Lumbux closely ecco my own - "taking the Mickey out of the others that bid bid on it". My thought were they are taking the piss out of their customers. Its like lets see if we can get someone to pay this stupid price for this motorbike, and again if someone is willing to pay it then that's their bussines. But this action gives me an insight into the mentality, morrals and ethics of the people who put this bike up for sale. It could be a private person asking them to sell it, but ultimately it's being sold by SMC. For me it brings to a close my dealings SMC. I did not buy much so it's not too much of a loss to them, (but who know what the future might have brought) My first encounter with SMC was when I bought my 900SS. I looked up the local dealer and thought they should know some stuff. I called up wanting some information on the Chassis and Frame number and if they belonged together e.t.c and to see what they could tell me about the bike. In hindsight it probabley was not something they could have answerd but it was the manner in which my enquiry was recieved by them which put my back up right from the start. My overall thoughts of the encounter was - if I was not going to buy anything then they were not intrested. I am sorry if people think I should not comment on things such as this and give negative comments and feedback, Its not something enjoy or do often but for some reason this ebay listing has peed me off. You will either get what I am trying to say or not. If you don't get it I am sorry I can not explain it better. The only thing I can say is as before, it's taking the piss out of it's customers and Ducati lovers in general, and you are right He11cat, I bet someone would have cherished that bike. Anyway that's what I think. You reap what you sow. Cheers Gaz
It'll be worth what someone is willing to pay for it. In the meantime someone (I'm presuming SMC) have shelled out £4k on something that is just sat there doing nothing.
Erm....about a bag of sugar less than an SS......I've owned both, it's a lot of money for a single seat unit! I know some years had the odd difference like discs etc, but some years they didn't bother.
I think the early ones were something like 5kg, due mostly to the wheels, but carbon mudguards, single seat unit, no pillion pegs all helped too. From mk2 onwards there where no mag/alloy wheels, and the carbon bits seem to vary from year to year too. I think mk2 onwards was about 1 or 2 kilos lighter. They weren't a big seller from new as it was a lot of money to pay for a 900ss with a single seat.
once the marvic wheels went you were left with high level pipes, a single seat, underslung floating rear calliper and floating cast iron front discs, carbon mudguard, hugger and clutch cover - oh and you could have a yellow one, oh and a numbered plaque, all for an extra 800 quid. I think that at the time I enquired about having the bits for my SS, and it came to just over 600 quid, so you effectively paid for the SL side panels and numbered plaque. It wasn't like they were ever truly limited in the 888sp sense of the word, so its not like you own one of 500 say, and the engines were a different animal or anything like that. Unfortunately if they'd have done something like the 888sp's, or like yamaha did with the yzf750rr or kawa zx7rr that would have been very trick indeed.
Bang on,and 6k is a big stretch of the imagination for a pimped out 900ss. I do hope it doesn't sell, much like the yellow SL also on ebay which has been on my watch list for over a year now. In a funny kind of way it just reminds me of grey imports back in the 90's when everyone was flogging 916's There's a lot of love for bordi era bikes at the mo and they need a lot of tlc and looking after, and like the 916's you couldn't just come off an jap four which you'd kept on the front lawn in all weathers, covered in shit and ridden through the winter, and just jet wash it and thumb the starter and all would be good. Which gave rise to the whole unreliable peices of shit stigma that all those grey import buyers started bleating on about. and I'm rambling now, so i'll stop!
I'd like to see the weight difference between the Marvic mags and the stock Brembo wheels. I had a pair of both and couldn't tell the difference between them, front or rear! The only thing noticeably lighter was my wallet!
I notice that one has popped up on ebay this week for £3995 and then had "Deposit Taken" put against the description same day. Its a bit odd though, its S registered (registered 11/98) but is a Mk IV according to the Plaque.. It has an early fairing (not vented like he late one and FE) - must have sat unregistered.....??
