I also bit the bullet a couple of weeks ago & bought a superpole seat from JHP (Ducati Coventry), took the bike from Gloucester to Chepstow (mainly A48), across the bridge, through Bristol, A4 to Bath & home along the A46 yesterday morning & despite the fact the seat feels rock solid, it's definetly more comfortable than before
I just want one that doesnt gimme monkey butt and helps me slide over on a trackie. Ive a seargent on both bikes and its okay for monkey butt but i swap over to the oem one for a trackie. The superpole looks ok, i might try one. I ride to the alps and in France a lot so i need a comfier (relatively speaking of course) seat.
Bootsam Not sure what your after nor what height you are, if tall the DP would be an option to consider, BUT if you want a soft seat its not the way to go, its pretty dammed hard John
Hokay Bit of background my 1198s has rearsets set high up and quite far back on Jack up plates and I am 5' 7" tall. I also have the Speedymoto clamp that raises the bars by about 1" I started with the stock seat and found it too slippy. Basically when hanging off had no grip on the inside of my leg. Also found that I slid forwards under heavy braking Superpole seat is very different. Much more grippy - when hung off it literally sticks you solid. However because of the profile at the front when you are shorter like me it pushes you back quite a way due to the lump riding up the front of the tank - this in turn puts you quite high up because you are higher to start with and further back on the profile of the seat. I could just get my tip toes down or one foot down when leaning the bike at lights etc. It does affect the feel of the bike a lot - the height difference is marked - I felt on the bike rather than in it if that makes sense - plus I couldnt snug up as close to the tank. I have heard mention of people saying it ws better on the balls -I found it worse - because the lump in front of the tank was right up against my plums - and although not slipping it was causing pressure Changed for DP seat - same profile as stock with a kind of suede type cover. Now can get both feet on ground flat - that much difference. Much better for me on the reach to the bars. Feel in the bike again rather than on it. Not as grippy as superpole but close. Much better in the plum department as tank is broader rather than the superpole 'hump'. Problem is the wear - it seems to wear very easily indeed For a rider my height the superpole changed the feel of the bike a lot - quite surprised by how much tbh If you are taller and finding the bike cramped I think the superpole would be an excellent choice I prefer the DP seat but dont like the wear rate - I understand there are two versions ? How do you tell the difference and does the other one stay looking ok for longer?
There aren't really 2 versions, just that one superceded the other. Different covering. The original one was neoprene. These are identifiable by the DP logo on the seat.
