A little bit after ............. Funniest thing about it was my German colleague Thomas was showing off with his SOTA blinged up Passat it had a factory fitted phone & satnav :Smuggrin: (could have been 96 or 97 even, so wow this was new high tech back then) we'd been travelling a few days listening to "Herman the German" telling us where to go all in a gruff abrupt German lingo when Thomas suggested we change the "Voice" over to English as it was in his words a "sexy sounding lady :Kiss: ". So we spent the final 30 minutes of our journey to Braunschweig waiting for the "sexy sounding lady" she didn't utter a word . Thomas knew where our hotel was so we were ok but he thought he must have nacked the Schifffahrt playing about with its settings. The next day he typed our destination into the "orange text & arrows only" device and off we set with our voiceless navigator. Now it turned out that in these early units the language system was loaded from the CD in a big black box in the boot and it took a lifetime to actually load a different language, 30 mins or so in to our journey and "sexy sounding lady" pipes up excellent definitely better than listening to Herman, however a natty feature of the unit was that if you put a destination in of which there may have been more than one the "voice" would ask you to confirm the locality, but we hadn't heard a "voice" so no confirmation meant the Schifffahrt device decided for us :Bookworm: and guess what yep there were a couple of these towns and hitting the GDR cobbles made Thomas realise we'd gone 200 kM in the wrong direction , our customer wasn't too happy with our late arrival and to this day I'm sure Thomas' "stupid English colleague" got the blame for it :Bucktooth:
