EPS, the large piece is aluminium not rubber or sealant. I sent pictures to my local dealer, they have sent to Ducati. Believe it or not their response was that they’ve seen worse. Apparently it’s regularly found during oil changes. Swarf left in the cases from the milling process during manufacturing Mmm?
I'll refrain from cursing - but bloody hell Tony if thats aluminium that came out of engine I hate to think whats still inside there !! Their response is unbelievable - there MUST be something really wrong with that engine. I hate to say it but I would n't even start that engine !! I genuinely hope you find a decent, cost effective solution but there should not be chunks of alloy or rubber/plastic that size in your engine - not good !!
Thats a bloody joke, Speak to JHP and even another such as Moto Rapido and get there opinions, I would email them so you have record of what they come up with and get back to Ducati, Swarf left in the cases pffft, Good luck mate
Ye I had those little rectangular assembly bits come out too. Engine ran sweet as tho in all my ownership
So as mentioned earlier, we’ve got to the bottom of bits in my oil. The small rectangular bits in the OP apparently are from assembly of the alternator. That’s not what I had though. I had the missing bits of the water pump plastic cog, see pics for tooth wear. This is what happens when you work a V2 Panigale hard. And yes, I’m told it’s the same design in 1199, 1299 and R. The advice I was given is if you ride your bike on track a fair bit & work it, you should consider getting this cog checked and view it as a service item. To fix, it was roughly a 3 hour job plus parts. Few hundred quid.
So if you have a Ducati high performance track and road sportsbike, and you ride it hard, the waterpump cog fails. How many miles have you riden it hard would you estimate and whats the total mileage now?
4641 Miles. About 2k on track. Don’t know the history before I had it though but understand it to have been run in & used on road. Crap design eh? Another piece of quality engineering to add to my 1199 collection - see my other post re the £20 plastic fuel connector from underside of tank to fuel pipe, shearing in half last month at Jerez and flooding the TPS which is directly below it. Lost 2 days. Now fixed with a metal one.
Its appaling planning and insufficient quality control imo. Ducati make bikes which perform superbly, with inovative design and stunning aesthetics. The bikes then all too often have issues like this. For an extra pound or two, and serious testing regime these flaws would be rectified.
