Tate Britain Defends Job Ad For £40k 'head Of Coffee'

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by PerryL, Jan 30, 2020.

  1. Let’s face it, what does £40k buy you these days!

  2. Not even a Ducati!

  3. After 20% tax, not much... if you're trying to provide for a family in London and renting. And if you're after a mortgage then I guess you're going to struggle.

  4. Nor a Norton...

  5. A what? :yum

  6. Apart from the fact that the £40K is more than the curators are paid.

  7. Too soon :expressionless:

  8. It'll work in the future......

I guess there are still too many open wounds :( humblest apologies

  9.
Except it’s not. This is a management position. Curator manager positions will be paid more. I wonder if the person actually making and pouring the coffee is paid the same as the curators?

  10. They will be on zero hours contracts :D

  11. "The job entails sourcing, blending and roasting coffee for use in all Tate Eats' sites and managing the Hot Beverage Team that is responsible for all aspects of tea and coffee delivery."
Yes, it is indeed a management job and there must be very few people with the skills required to souce, blend and roast coffee.

  12. So they should be. Bloody curators. They only look at paintings all day ffs. Harder to put filter coffee in a cup with syrup

  13. I have blended Dowie Egbert's with Lor Coffee when changing over jars

  14. At my last place of work one of teh facilities staff was caught mixing decaf and 'leaded' coffee beans into the fancy machines, she said 'ah bollocks it's all the same' :bucktooth:

  15. As someone who has to have decaf, I can confirm you get more mpg from the unleaded version but you don’t get as much runaway power

  16. I just blended some coffee with some cream.....

It went from very dark brown to light tan in only three spoon movements.

That must make me worth a few quid.

Here's a tip from an experienced blender (I said blender, not bleeder); don't leave any Castrol R in your petrol tank.....

....it doesn't blend, it only goes into small droplets when mixed and back again to a blob which then bungs up the jets and injectors.

  17. But does smell nice when you burn it, unlike coffee!

  18. I put it in the mower petrol tank........(Castrol R I mean)

....just to remind me of when I was racing.
