  1. Because you might want to come back one day and would like to have a say in the country's future?
He served many many years in RAF..guess this should be enough to have a say. In my opinion at least...

  3. We WILL get used to this new way of trading. Whether we stick with it in the long term remains to be seen.

  4. The point is whilst in the EU buying and selling within that market was as if dealing in one country. Now we deal with 27 different countries. It makes it more difficult and more expensive. Not a good step forward and not worth the, in my opinion, imaginary benefits.

  6. I may be a French resident but am still a British citizen. I have not taken on any other nationality. I am not allowed to vote in the UK because I am a French resident and not allowed to vote in France because I am a British citizen.

  7. No the buyer pays the VAT, not the Company selling it. That is the whole basis of a sales tax.

  8. Sounds like there is no uniformity across Europe. I had Swedish residency, and had the vote both there and in UK by post. Sweden allows dual
nationality in that if I had taken citizenship, I did not have to surrender my UK passport. Dunno about France, but Denmark did not permit dual when I
    looked at it years ago.

  9. Trade agreements don’t get rid of import and export paperwork nor the Vat and customs fees issues. Only a single market does that.

  10. Wow, it's almost as if they are all sovereign nations able to make decisions on their own.

  11. A British thing. If you have been out of the UK for more than a few years and are not on an electoral register then you lose your right to vote.
Many years ago the suffragettes fought for the right to vote under the slogan "No taxation without representation", they were given the vote, many of us do not have that right.

  12. Nothing to do with Brexit then.

  13. See above, #122

  14. I'm not allowed to vote in Germany. That right is taken away if you have been out of the country more than 15 years. My wife can still vote in Italy.
I guess every country sets their own rules.

  15. Everything to do with Brexit. All the things we were told we couldn't do because we were in the EU are being shown to be lies. Can't control our own borders? France just did. Can't kick out EU nationals if they don't have a job? Yes, after 3 months just like Austria and Belgium do.

  16. My point was the voting thing. He couldn't vote in the referendum, brexit hasn't changed that.

  17. OK, we may be using the same example to argue different and non competing points.

  18. Most but not all of EU - UK trade is WTO tariff free but we are not part of the single market anymore so customs fees and paperwork and border checks are required. Customs fees and WTO tariffs are different things.

To get rid of customs fees and VAT issues and paperwork the only option is to be part of a single market. Just think how good for business one of those would be. :D

  19. Up until the age of 18 I could have been eligible for Swedish citzenship but would then have been required to do Swedish Military service. I didn't take pursue it but ended up joining the Army over here anyway.

  20. Can we not all at least agree that if that was all it was, the single market, the U.K. would almost definitely still be a member ?
