  4. I’m not sure it would be possible to strap this to the back of the bike!

  5. I have loads of different tents for different purposes but my main biking one is a Coleman Cobra 3 man. They are a really waterproof wedge type tent with aluminium poles and pegs. My last trip was a 2 weeker in France and Spain with a mixture of weather conditions including prolonged almost monsoon rain and wind conditions. No leaks or damage. They do a 2 man or 1 man but got a 3 man due to the storage room that I needed. They are light, pack up into a small package and really good value.

  6. Another one for Hilleberg, I have this one, its a great tent. However I have not toured with it yet on my motorbike, its something I plan to do when I retire!!

Any advice on how I would strap a tent/sleeping mat on the rear of a Multi?? What sort of straps do people use?

  7. A bit off-topic: I have spent around 200 days travelling the European mountains over the last 15 years, the routes are littered with pensions, hotels and guesthouses, ALL of them are very biker friendly, at very reasonable prices during September. I chose to go for these because after a day in the saddle I want a comfy bed at night and not having to bother with the extra luggage for camping gear and be able to stay in the center of these villages where's there's plenty of restaurants etc.. just my 2 cents, ENJOY THE RIDE!

  12. I use a 30L rear bag on the OEM rack and the sleeping bag and mat went in that, plus clothing etc. The tent isn't too wide packed, so put it at the front and secured to the bag (which is secured already) with some straps I have - Any will do, but I use Mosko Moto ones.

Panniers will work too, but I don't use them.

  14. I really enjoy touring & camping when I go in van. Camping is alright when I go in a car. But on a bike

Most of these bikes have two people on them too.

I have tried it but I just can't see me doing it ever again.

  15. Leaving for Italia/Dolomites in 2 weeks, first time ever without a pillion, I'll make sure that I have the absolute minimum on luggage, thinking 20 pounds max in a bag at the rear for 10 days, no cases, nothing!
Just imagine, over 825 pounds fully loaded BMW GS-es with pillion everywhere, about 80% of the bikes you'll see, (I had a couple of them), Italy here I come on a 550 pounds 15 year old MTS 1100S, without pillion or luggage and fresh Michelins.
Just one thing.. never try to keep up with the locals. ;-)

Edit: rain suit already 3 pounds... I'll bring less underwear / socks/ shirts and wash them in the sink with shampoo... who cares.

  16. Agreed, but I did sell it for a few hundred after a year.

I have had lots of tents - still got this one - the legend that is the Terra Nova Laser Comp - can be carried on a Fireblade

  17. Another Hilleberg - this time the smaller Nammatj 2. You can double pole it as well - people took these to explore the Arctic :D - seen here on a nice French Campsite !

  19. Of course... I'd never be daft enough to camp if I was touring 2-up

  20. Surprised how popular the Hilleberg tents are on here, recently bought this one, checking it over here on delivery while pitched in the garage in case it had to go back..

Hilleberg Allak 2 , including the groundsheet it cost me £1,200 ….stupid money and you can’t get hold of them for love nor money,…10 weeks I waited for it.

    Also have this one…

Eurohike Avon 3 DLX very comfortable, loads of room, blackout bedroom which is great and cost £90, bit heavy at about 5.5 kgs though.

And,…this Coleman Phad X2…used it a fair bit and it’s good in high winds , got it second hand for about £50

Have 2 other tents as well, they get a bit addictive….

However I don’t use any of them on the bike, way too much hassle,…agree with the other comments, just take your credit card and find a decent B&B, especially if it’s raining, nothing worse than getting into a tent wet and then having to pack it up in the morning when it’s still pissing down,..don’t ask me how I know
