I am also quite sure that the locals ( Germany ) classed the kit pipe as an 'open' ie non cat pipe rather than a race exhaust, as there were a few hissy fits when the proper race exhaust came out and it looked a lot better and it had screws rather than studs for the attachment of the necessary brackets for the number plate etc
Anyway all this talk of 999 exhausts and I don't have a standard can for Tüv (Mot) so if anyone has one, let me know
Won't your MOT man just pass it anyway so long as you put a sticker over the race use engraving? - most do as far as I am aware...
What was, a standard 'non Termi' end can with small outlets but straight through supplied with 999R's as a race pipe? My current belief is they were all supplied with Termi's but it would be an interesting fact if not
Over here in Germany if you get pulled for a non conformity issue ie race exhaust, you get your pants pulled over your head as all modifications are entered into your documents. You then get a letter instructing you to appear at the local police station or main Tüv test centre to show that the standard exhaust/ equipment is fitted.. A bit of a pain if you don't have a standard can to fit
Just been trying to research 999R's to find more info and it is amazing how many experts there are all contradicting themselves - one saying the 2003, 2004 999R Fila's had grey cast swing-arms and the 05 having WSB spec black ones evidently. Another expert says the WSB spec swing arm was first seen on the 2005 R. There has never been a WSB spec swing arm on any 999R's - just a black fabricated one that looked 'similar'. Most 2003 R Fila's were supplied with this fabricated black swing arm and magnesium cam covers, I think as optional extras from my previous research but it could have been Ducati's manufacturing process dictating this. All R Fila's left the factory with the same spec other than this. Firstly there was one run of 999R's in 2003 - mine being No 155 of 200 and made in June 2003. All the 2004 ones and 05 if they exist as far as I am aware are just late registered unless someone has a plaque on theirs saying otherwise?. I know of one brand new one which sold a couple of years ago but not sure if this was pre registered. Many people claim the 2004 999R came with a red frame and black swing arm, but many say the 03 and 04 models were the same with grey frame and grey swing arms - it's a minefield out there...
ha ha . Once on the autobahn on the way to nurburgring I ran out of petrol in 55 miles . Think it took 20 minutes . Or there abouts .
It's quite hard to find the definitive answer, as There seemed to be a very loose standard set. I didn't realise that the Fila was available with 04 style wheels/ Swingarm and cam covers until I saw one in bike trader uk, as over here they were all grey Swingarm models.. Or so I thought .. During the time when the 05 bikes came out, Ducati Deutschland farmed out new swingarms and newer fairing parts as a way of boosting poor sales and lots of excess stick sitting in dealers. I picked up my 04 999r new in 05 for the same price as a new 05 999s due to the model change as it killed the older 999 model prices..
All the Fila's had Magnesium Wheels - at least that's what the Ducati press release said! 80%+ had the black swing arms and magnesium heads and I think this was an optional extra - I haven't seen one yet with one or the other.
I don't think any of the Fila's had Mag wheels, they first had the 2003 style forged alloy rims with the larger spokes The post 2004 bikes that I never new existed had the same spec as a normal 2004 R Still look a great bike even now.
Here you go, mentioned in the text and in the specs at the end, same wheels as the 03 999R but cast in magnesium evidently. I still believe from my earlier research there were only 200 and all were made in 2003, most with black arms and mag cam covers. I am happy to be proved wrong but i can't remember the wheels ever being magnesium, as you wouldn't get them passed the dreaded Tüv testing back in 2003/4. I had to try and translate the dymag testing procedure into German to get a Sondergenehmigung ( like a Vosa test) for a collogue. I have a 6" rear in magnesium and I still can't get it passed the local fun police.. I'm guessing the 1199SL has been manufactured to meet current standards etc .. Ducati's sooo confusing
