  2. Seems an odd one, I’ve not known of anyone having a handbrake fail once applied correctly. Once had a car roll off its driveway in front of my direction of travel because the owner had not applied it nor left it in gear.

I’d be livid if that was my bike on the deck.

  3. Failed or not applied by the driver.

  4. Yeah that’s what I was thinking. If it was a model T, I’d be inclined to believe that, but handbrakes on modern cars don’t just fail. Bloody dozy car drivers.

  5. Happened last week to, no bikes damaged on that occasion.

  6. don't shoot the messenger! :) just relaying wot i read as wasn't there but in Brizzle. Genuine fail did happen on older cars as stuff cooled down, Alfasud for example but we can only speculate as to the full details unless someone knows more.

  9. Had this happen to me some time back
I was parked in the car park in Croydons branch of Ikea
When I returned a Ranges Rover had imbedded itself into the rear of my then girlfriends mini
The dozy owner returned admitted he’d left it in neutral with the handbrake off!

  10. Well as that car is about a year old, and usually driven by pensioners, I think we can draw our own conclusions!

  11. There lies the problem, how many folk people leave it in neutral as we're all taught, slot it into 1st gear when stationary.
On a personal note, congratulations on getting out of Croydon.:upyeah:

  12. in a multi Storey car Park in Worthing some 20 years ago, I was about to get in my own car when I heard a short screech of tires followed by a massive bang/crunch which almost echoed due to the location. A small elderly lady had been driving a large automatic car and pushed the wrong pedal while in gear. She was in a terrible state mentally post – accident, but nobody was hurt. I wouldn't have wished this upon anyone, maybe she was a little bit tired but appeared not the sort of person who had done it out of lack of care.

  13. 100%, i'd one like this when i fell out of the van when trying to reach down and collect litter outside on the driveway, but it was wet and my foot slipped with me falling out of the van, the vehicle was in first gear crossing the B road, but i'd manage to get off my backside grabbing the handbrake just before it kissed the neighbours picket fence.
The consequences are huge if someone ran me over that day in a car or truck.

  15. generalising but haven't we been lucky through or lives at times? I can remember driving a TR5 as was approaching dark, in the rain on an unknown-to-me road, and mistook a tight L/H bend for a "straight on" down a side-road. Braked hard but too late and fully locked-up and going straight forward so lifted off and continued on into side-road without incident/hitting anything coming the other way.
