Thanks, I’m told this is the risk unless the frame is heat treated after the repair and then once repainting is factored in makes it an expensive option …
He did heat treat it afterwards, I rattle canned painted it and it looked ok - where the repair was is quite hidden. It probably only failed again as it's a high stress area on a singlespeed. I've broken a carbon fibre frame in exactly the same place. Depending on where and why your frame cracked you might be luckier
It’s a hairline fracture where the seat post meets the bottom bracket, just above the weld line Bike is 12 years old though and used extensively
It it were me find an equivalent frame new if possible and swap all the components over, personally I’d find a Steel frame anything from 531 to Titanium. I don’t like the ride qualities of Aluminium and would rather have the weight penalty of Steel. I’ve a Colnago Extreme carbon fibre for sale 54cm square £1400 if you’re interested? Never been built up just sits in a box in my garage.
My thoughts exactly! It went in for a service because the components are mostly knackered (Shimano XT / XTR) but they aren’t made anymore so it’s really time for a new one
It’s all 1x11/12 now, some good bikes to be had once you can get past the choice and commit. Good luck.
Was just going to do the normal 10 but decided to go onto Walsham lock as not too muddy, to see their new fish stairs.
Looks a lovely ride out that Chris, stairs for fish utterly baffling they just need to learn to jump further/higher. The washing out on the line at that house is a bit off, you could have asked them to remove the items to improve the ‘look’.
I couldn't get over the strength of the sun today, startling. Imagine what that would have looked like with a better camera?
A long walk home after puncture……..conditions were difficult majority of the singletrack was muddy or icy or a mixture of both. Saw a bunch of deer probs about 20, tried to go round them so as not to spook them.
