The Cyclists/ebikers

  1. I've used a Specialised saddle with a cut-away for years on my MTB and love it (must get one for my roadie)- canna comment on the ED issue; I've 2 kids and never had an issue with cycling. But I know guys who've been advised to reduce their time in the saddle if planning a family.

  3. So with so many cyclists on here should we sort out a Strava Club?

  4. That kinda stuff ain't for me bud, I can see the attraction if you're training for stuff. I've only ever trained if you can call it that using heart rate zone. Used strata but just for routes, me mate and me went green laying couple yers back used starve to map it. Me buds starva account got flagged by the holders of the KOM's he thought it hilarious

  5. Ramp tests are the cruelest of tests ride till ya puke, done a few when I got inquisitive years back. Probably a little more scientific than when I did them just ride till you vomit:confused:.

Reading the very last para and they talk about training without weights brought to mind Charles Bronson. lol

  6. I've always found the least padded saddles better, I've never sat for long on my sit bones I nearly always try to sit more forwards I find it too uncomfortable too upright. Even my MTB's are set for a more forward position.

As a mate just said, what’s the current lap record for the M25?

  8. Makes me appreciate more the Hailwoods, Hunts and Sheene's of times gone by who did f*ck all in terms of training and diet, but had so much latent passion and talent they went down in the annals of racing history as the best of the best.
Hailwood after a 10 yr hiatus and a small Kegger belly and Hunt after night of partying still hungover winning races probs with a couple pairs of panties in his pocket.

  9. Fizzik Antares carbon on my Cipollini, once used to it, it’s an all day saddle, longest to date been 14hrs

  10. You may not recall but football players smoking before a match lol. Tom Simpson smoking cigars all manor of things unthinkable now lol

  11. 14hrs jebus that hardcore.

  12. ive heard tales of the allblacks of old getting bang on it the night before a test match. i know pretty much every rugby practice id did at club level (not that there were many for me or i was any good) was followed by a good drink in the clubs bar.

  13. I sure do, and cyclists too.
For me, the completely custom designed diet and lifestyle of today's athletes, down to the minute of how much sleep they get and to the milligram of food and liquid they take, takes a backseat to the guys who just got the fu**in job done without any special requirements, just raw talent and sheer determination.
Hats off to all of them, and as much as I admire the Hamiltons of today, I always wonder what they'd be like with none of that.

  14. agree - Hailwood was something else, modest in the extreme but James couldn't hold a candle to one Mike Hawthorn in most departments.

  15. TBH think they'd still be good no matter what, I just think these folk have pure talent. no matter the era if they've that steely determination it'll happen. Same for if you could bring some of these old schoolers back and put into the modern era they'd be on it, they just know what it takes are lets face it ruthless enough to win.

When you read of the old school cycle races and the driving round Europe they'd do, as was it Hinault when asked about drugs he stated 'you think we can do this and be clean' lol

  16. Charity ride last year, we rode from our factory in Shildon, County Durham to our factory in Perth over 3days, the guys that mapped it used some “cycle routes” in some cases weren’t suitable for a full Susser mtb never mind a lightweight road bike on 21mm tyres!! It was tortuously slow :)

  17. Yep, there's that side of it too, Merckx, Babe Ruth, many don't realize they were drug addicts too, specially Ruth.
I'm pretty sure none of them were clean, even a hungover Hunt had alcohol in his system which made a bit of a diff.

  18. I had an Antares on a bike (Cannondale CAAD 12) for two rides, absolutely hated it. I ride a Specialized Ronin on all my bikes now other than my gravel bike where I use a Specialized Power. Longest ride on the Ronin is 350 miles in 24 hours but done Newcastle to London (315 miles) in 18hrs 27 minutes and a long one from Faucon to Nice in France, started at 03.30 in Faucon rode to the top of Mt Ventoux to see the sun rise then rode to Nice about 190 miles but with nearly 7,000 mtrs of climbing, I was paddling in the Med by 18.00.
