I should have been on the Isle of Man at the southern 100, I'd planned to peddle to heysham, sail out and watch the last days racing, as we all know, the event is cancelled so I too cancelled the jolly. But, it's a nice day and my ribble was ready to go so had a 60 odd mile outing in the Yorkshire dales.....
Started to plan a couple of rides. The first is Lands End to Bude over three days in September with two friends. The second is the King Alfred’s Trail, for which I’ve bought the book and might do over a few weekends.
I've done all of the Ridge Way section of the King Alfred’s Way as it's within cycling distance from my house. Some great sites along the way if you like your history.
Nearly 40 miles today, absolutely soaked when we got back. Had three punctures so should have taken the gravel not the roadie.
Going back to my post from a few weeks ago, I ordered two jerseys from Wiggle. A DHB Aeron & Le Col Sport, didn’t like the DHB and the Le Col didn’t fit, so they have been returned and refunded. This morning I wore an Assos Mille GT, which i previously didn’t go a bundle on, but it was great so ordered another.

Yesterday I cycled my longest and highest ride to date, 71 miles, 3,900 feet on my road bike. I rode to Frome to pay my respects at the family grave, partly because it was the 20 year anniversary of my mothers death at 59, which is my current age. On a brighter note I visited Pronto bikes, who have appeared on GCNs YouTube channel a few times. They have indoor cycle racks and a cafe where I enjoyed a bit of cake with a coffee. After I got talking to the owner with him offering some useful advice and information. If you find yourself near Frome, walk up Bath St, they are worth a visit. I suffered many punctures, will be changing the Panaracer Agilest at the first opportunity, great feel, grip but no puncture resistance.
I’ve consistently used Continental Gatorskins with no punctures for around 10 years. For balance though my mate used them briefly as he had punctures galore.
Congratulations on the longest ride, especially if it was as windy where you are as it was here yesterday... I'd rather have a cheaper/heavier tyre with some puncture resistance than have punctures. Plus, I really can't be arsed with the tubeless faffery. As DS says Gatorskins are a popular choice or Armadillos.
@DucatiScud @Nelson thanks for the reminder, I used both Armadillos and Gatorskins sometime ago, with excellent puncture resistance.
This morning my patience with the Panaracer Agilist tyres ran out. I’ve replaced them with Continentals and changed sealant to Silca. I’ve reduced pressure to 90 psi.
I received some advice from a Cervelo S5 Facebook group, which made me revisit the tyre pressures again. The max pressure for the Continental GP 5000S TR is 73psi, so I’ve reduced it and hope to test tomorrow.
I’m an old school Luddite, can’t get my head around such low pressures. Clearly they work at that but just seems so low.
