i'm sure people have done far more, but recorded around 42 mph on a favorite hill near me, and only backed off because of a bend you can't take at that speed, plus felt like a (micky mouse) wheel might buckle on braking.

Yes you can’t remove from our local tip. He lived in the big city though and would on occasion grease palms.
I worked very close to the tip in my old job, all bikes were taken aside and then taken to auction. If you were lucky enough to spot a nice one you could haggle and buy it before it went off. I got my first MTB and roadie that way. The chap in charge was no fool, he had a wealth of knowledge on the value of just about anything that came along. He made a killing once on a pallet load of old 'scrap' steel tube, that turned out to be pre-cut Reynolds frame tubes. There were some interesting 'as new' old bikes that came in, 20-30 years old, riden a few times then left in the shed.
Just finally found a set of crank brothers refresh kits for an old pair of pedals that I want to rebuild. I may try and strip what’s left of the anodising off and try and refresh the exterior, what could possibly go wrong.

Yesterday I embarked on what ended up as my longest ever ride. I also stopped at Semley to pay my respects and view the stained glass window and “headstone”of WPC Yvonne Fletcher. Had a good lunch at Pronto Bikes and 40 miles, met my wife for coffee and share a slice of coffee and walnut cake. I have less than 600 miles to go for this year’s target of 3,107 m (5,000 km) and hoping I can get it done well before Christmas. The pain cave is nearing completion in case the weather turns early.
