It says 700c wheels which I think are 28” but I’m probably wrong. It’s about £1100 but there are deals to be had. When I say I’d like to have something for road and dirt it would be mainly road. And the dirt would not be very adventurous if I’m honest, I don’t bounce very well anymore.
Amaze balls there is a 26er front fork with lock out https://www.evanscycles.com/rocksho...MI3rWS8vmV6QIVB7TtCh0GUw_BEAQYASABEgLKcfD_BwE
I’ve just said to Noobie when I say dirt I probably do mean gravel tracks etc nothing like what you lunatics get up to. The options out there are so confusing. Cheers.
I opted for a cannon dale hybrid, ditched the slicks in favour of cyclo cross tyres. No suspension, good on road and capable of dirt trails. 700c tyres. Good as a commuter. I think it was around the £600 mark from Leisure lakes but that was 4 years ago
700cc=29 650=27.5 As far as I’m aware there is no metric for 26 er, happy if anyone knows more. 26 was settled on back in the day due to the availability of old klunkers as I think the yanks called them and that was the wheel size in that type of bike.
Yes there’s similar to be had for 899 at first glance, pays to research the prices. If you can get hold of last years model of the same it’ll save you dollar. Mostly folk stick to a brand they know but for me they’re all much of a muchness, your big brand like cannondale, specialised and giant aren’t so different from each other.
Giant just the same lower spec. https://www.rutlandcycling.com/bike...VFeDtCh0CtQwsEAQYASABEgK6nfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
There’s one on eBay at the minute, 2019 and £650 or best offer. The frame is a Large but it’s in Rochdale which is a long way from Bucks.
Is it your size, is he collection only? You might be able to get it picked up by someone like Hermes if he boxes it well. Looks tidy in his photos
That’s the issue, I don’t know if I need a large or an XL. I’ve asked him a question regarding the frame size, I’ll see what he comes back with. It’s nigh on half price so even if I drove there it’s still a huge saving.
7ft 3” 6ft 1” in real life. Some guides say I’m a L and some an XL so god knows. My Specialized is a 19” frame.
different bars for more hand positions https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/HBNIB825/nitto-b825-touring-handlebar better grips maybe https://www.chainreactioncycles.com...MI34T8odiY6QIVgevtCh2MJALfEAQYAyABEgJSTvD_BwE or just bar ends which are IMO the better option so you can move hand positions during a ride. https://www.wiggle.co.uk/brand-x-cl...MI_rjH0tiY6QIV6oBQBh2Z9QB_EAQYBCABEgKyjPD_BwE
I had only ridden mountain bikes for twenty years until I recently got a Pinnacle Arkose D2 gravel bike from Evans, it was in the jan sale for about £800? . I've loved it so far and living in the south east I've ridden it pretty much everywhere I would my mountain bike as we don't have mountains . LOL . What I've found is that on a MTB you don't really need to think too much about what line you take, you can just ride over/blast over stuff . But on the gravel bike you have to think more about your line choice and it tests you a bit more off road . Then when you get on the road you can whizz along and bang some miles in until you come across that next byway off road section .
I think gravel/hybrid would be where I'm going, should I upgrade/modernize. Think of all the money I'm saving not going to Spain/Italy and Portugal this year!
No TT or Scotland trip this year means I have a few quid to spend. I think I’ve more or less decided to go with the Giant Toughroad SLR1. I never realised how many different styles of bikes were on the market, for a novice like me the terminology is very confusing. DucatiScud has been very helpful, cheers fella.
That’s a choice only you can make, judging by your pictures I’d say a hybrid like JAT has his eye would be ideal. Disc brakes a larger wheel will make it a more pleasant experience and if you can get something with pannier racks already fitted bonus.
