about 16 miles unassisted, went through quite a lot of flood planes so above the ankles in places. this is Walsham Lock near Ripley - i've never seen the water so fast, high and angry here in my life.
I did clean my drive train in the sonic bath using Screwfix no nonsense degreaser, excellent results. I must get on and try the hot wax next ! I diluted it 10:1 with boiling water

Oh my word you have a Lidl, clearly a sign that your neighbourhood is quickly going down the chitter. Where I live the Lidl closed down, couldn’t generate enough revenue I guess.
We haven’t a local any longer as it shut down. I don’t do the weekly shop that is left to the domestic staff and seem to use M&S bags for the Sainsburys weekly shop.

Well it’s been c 27 years since I bought my current jalopy and it’s still providing sterling service even today. Very light and fun to ride off and on road. After 26 years of careful deliberation I’ve bought another bike. Perhaps over the spring and summer months once I express suitable ‘ surprise’ when I receive it on my birthday shortly I’ll delight/dismay you with some pictures of the Somerset levels and surrounds. It's a dangerous game is jumping red lights, asking to be piled into. It can be lairy enough on the road without adding to it. Better to wait your turn.
Agree, there is. Behaviour seems to change where you are, on the quiet back lanes in the countryside there's very little confrontation but in town, it's very different, getting buzzed happens often. I try to use side streets in towns and avoid big fast A roads where possible. Town centres are the worst for getting buzzed, being cut up, getting pulled out on and generally getting ignored or treated as a nuisance. I drive, ride motorbikes, peddle on both off road and on. I see both parts of the argument. We could all do more to tolerate each other. peddling definitely makes you more road aware when driving though (as does riding a motorbike). I've seen it off road too, dog walkers don't like mtb'ers, runners don't like dog walkers, horse riders don't like mtb'ers, mtb'ers don't like dog walkers... The list goes on. I peddle a lot, both on and off road. The biggest conflict I experience is with dog walkers. I give lots of warning I'm coming through, I slow down to not startle either the owner or the dog, hoping the owner will control their off the lead dog. 75% of the time things are fine, 25% of the time is the things you remember, some seem genuinely annoyed that it is their responsibility to control their pet and it's not acceptable to attack a passer by. I've said this before and i still believe it, folk seem more irritable and intolerant post lockdown.
so much sense in this post ^. Like most on here, i try and avoid any road-riding if possible, either this or go out at crazy early o'clock but was thinking last week that the percentage of cars that could knock you off if you had happened to move about 8" to your right as they passed, has risen massively in the last 5 years around "my way".
It is, but unfortunately there seems to be a sense that the law doesn’t apply to them in this case. I still believe that a £50 fine is very light given they not only jumped the Red light but also ignored the filter lane. Imagine just ignoring the filter lane on a motor bike that would be driving without due care?
PigTown (Swindon) has pretty decent cycling infrastructure, I've just cycled to Lidl (sorry DS) for a few bits and hardly had to use the roads. The worst confrontations I've seen are motorist and large groups of cyclist, I appreciate it's legal, but it is a trigger for many.
