Even though I'm relatively new to cycling (born again) ive never had a problem with cyclists or pedestrians. I have more of a problem with drivers who have little or no lane etiquette on motorways. It would be illegal for me to identify the most common miscreants, but they are often to be found on the M1 nr Leicester Forest East Services with their wife in the back, driving a small Japanese car.
If you want real space put a baby carrying chair on the back of your bike. That’s about the only time you’ll be given plenty of room by ignorant drivers. As for the negative posts best not feed the haters really, which we’ve managed thus far. Although I see from the gaps in the thread that the resident forum idiot has infected the thread, oh well at least I can’t see his nonsense.
You do realise that it’s illegal for you to ride your bicycle on the motorway. Yes I’ve seen it done a few times much to my bemusement.
There are a lot that don’t realise just how well Black acts as camouflage. I’ve been guilty of it on my Black Fireblade with matching leathers and no headlight on you become virtually invisible. My mate you I rode with at the time informed me one day when we were riding through Wales.
I tried a friends Keiser static bike today, very nice but not as nice as being shouted out by a well endowed young lady when I was trying another friends Peleton. I just can’t bring myself to spend £39 pcm on a Peleton subscription. Any advice welcomed
In the off season I do leg training (weights) and static bike. I tried a spin class once , but after 1/2 hr I was having psilocybin flashbacks.
You could try the Sufferfest DVD series on a lap top or through a player set up. I don’t do statics, however my mate used to just watch films whilst on a turbo.
I only use the turbo when the winter weather dictates it (snow, ice and heavy rain). It's nothing fancy, cheap old bike,,turbo rear tyre and mag turbo. I just use it to keep me spinning but I ride outdoors all year. I watch Netflix for an hour on my tablet during a turbo session..... One hour feels like a week but keep me sweating and spinning. It all gets packed away in spring.
I used a very cheap second hand spin bike during the scamdemic, I'd find an hour long class on youtube and was off. I really don't think you need a fancy and expensive set up, unless you want to compete in the on-line competitions, or wish to be shouted at by some big breasted dominatrix.... There are other sites available for that.... You're right, and hour feels like an eternity and I'd sweat like Boris Johnson on a lie detector! I've since sold it on and gone back to the gym.
Just so you know this woman gives cyclists enough room that should they hit a pot hole etc they have enough room to wobble/fall over
Going back to earlier comments regarding the use of lights, I've always used a flashing rear light on the road. Rear lights are always picked up further away and more quickly than a cyclist in dark clothing, even more so when going from sun into shade under trees. So why not use one? It can't be to save weight as mine can't be more than a few grammes and it is seriously bright
Whilst I was out yesterday (sunny day) a few cyclists came out of the shade towards me, no lights wearing black/dark clothing. They were darn near invisible, not a good idea on a single track road used by farmers and psycho bints driving rangies on the school run.
