As already said - it's not specific to the gearset, but to the frame. I do have a spare one for my Giant (though, I've never had a problem with it, though one of my friends seems to go through them...). But for the Etape - don't worry too much about it - they don't check. I'm doing the Etape also (my sixth time, I think). Some images for my little training run today.
This is the badger, there are two relatively local Cervelo dealers, I’m just struggling for time. I can call them to see if they have them.
It is, however @hindsight said they don’t check. It’s a two day drive so I’d rather not test it out, I think I might have one from another bike so might chuck that in.
Registration is on the Saturday, and it's not expected that you have full kit with you at that point - that's just to allow you to pick up your registration pack, and at the start line - there is no possible way that they can reasonably have everyone checked and keep the departure rate fast enough to get everyone through - so no checks there. Good luck when it comes. It's a great event, and I hope the weather is kind. The first time I did it, it was snowing on the climb after Fort Augustus - that was brutal. Last year it started chilly (was about 1-2C at the start line), but stayed dry and warmed up reasonably well as we turned northwards midway.
https://www.raceti.com/product/race...r-dropout-r2-r3-r4-r5-vwd-rca-163-cnc-raceti/ However as previously stated it’s unlikely to be checked, you could though throw any old mech hanger from another bike. I doubt having checked you have it that they’ll also check it fits. I’ve only been to one cycle event where the list of compulsory items was checked but that was an extreme MTB event and registration was the night before.
Have you thought of a UDH https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/products/universal-derailleur-hanger-udh this one pretty pricey but there are ones heaps cheaper. They will get you home on a mechanical setup no idea how they fair with di2 PS always carry a few links and a chain breaker....Then you can ride out as a single speed ...done that a few times
Good plan. My Tarmac came with a spare. Defo not one in with bike manual, starter pack and reflector gubbins?
Today was 45 miles over mostly undulating terrain until 10k out and then it gained just a little short of 1,000 metres. Proper leg burn out for my old legs. Currently in hotel in Kibichuo.
Ordered the hanger from the LBS who I bought the bike from in the first place. They should have it in tomorrow.
You know Murphy is watching, as you now have a spare you will never need it...which is a good thing unless it cost a packet
There's a content creator on youTube I followed for a while, her and her husband (both keen cyclists) were living and working in Japan, I don't recall which Prefecture. They traveled all over the country on their bikes, recording their exploits along the way. I does look a fascinating county, with an appealing culture. I remember how tidy the county looked and the unvandalized vending machines in most laybys.
Waddo? https://www.youtube.com/@waddo the earlier videos are great as he split them into smaller chunks...new ones are a tad long for my attention span
Only one I watched was Oscar Boyd whose route we shadowed for a few days but we’ve deviated now. It’s very tidy, hard to dispose of rubbish though if you are out and about, we carry what rubbish we accumulate during the day and dispose of it in the convenience stores or the hotel bin. The vending machines very common, you can’t go far without passing one, the drinks are very cheap. The record so far is 7 machines outside one shop. We’re trying now to skirt round Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka and need to be moving to the opposite coast from where we are now.
