  10. Now this "bicycle" thread is established, what are people's thoughts on a medium-priced, robust 7/8 speed derailleur? I have a feeling most of you will be spending far more than me on gear. I fitted a basic Shimano around 2 thousand miles ago but still surprised that the pivots have become sloppy so quickly - time to get something better.

  11. XT all the way good quality and reasonably priced

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  12. 7/8 speed WTF, you buy that cycle in the late 70’s, we’re up to 12 speeds now bud. Doesn’t sound that bad to me if it’s budget Shimano. I think from looking at your bike you need a long cage rear mech, I have some old school rear derailleur FOC I could send you they’re lx and such if you want to try those?

Yes as No states XT is the best option price/quality wise, depends on your budget.

  14. Thanks DS and Nigel, I will get investigating XT. This mechanism is definitely spent, I even wonder if it was a clone rather than genuine Shimano.

  17. My 3 way l/h clicker broke, so I removed the whole clicker and front derailleur, get me running a 1 way :D. It's tough in the ghetto.

  18. true, start to realise now that 30 plus miles is a long way to walk home if all else on bike fails, wouldn't have given it a second thought a few years ago.

  19. I never bought any, I seem to remember 22 shillings in a little blue book bible, but these are a bit like looking at a Ferrari for me.
