  1. it would be great to try, you'd have to remember to think of it like a fixed wheel bike, No coasting!! also prob wouldn't deal with dead branches etc in the Thames. £5.7K - what about you?

  3. Afraid not - so no 'deep joy' there.

  4. Nothing to shout about at all but my Sports App says that it ranked me within the top 9% of men my age for that distance...15.5mph. Pretty paltry but it gives me something to beat.

  5. I got passed by a stout person on an ordinary looking mountain bike coming back from Windsor so I gave chase, like you do.. I couldn't believe it, after a couple of miles the rider was a speck in the distance i reckon averaging around 18 mph, made me feel my age.

  6. The other day I was chugging up a hill in the lowest gear of the front top ring...chug chug chug...a young-un on a full on road bike just whizzed past me like I was standing still!
Oh well, I am only competing against myself on my little commuter bike!

  7. Downloaded an app, now I know I'm shit at cycling. I've good days and bad days as in energy levels. I just slow down and enjoy it. I was getting obsessed with distance, but on a mountain bike, I just base it on effort and how tired I am.
Although I must being getting the bug becuase I've started looking at road bikes.

  8. Anyone else got that one steep hill where you push like mad to see how fast you can go :):joy:

  10. ah well, with the (travel) lockdown slowly being relaxed, I guess this thread will slowly go to sleep now.. shame if it does.

  11. Lot more traffic about, that's for sure.

  12. Most probably, but at least it kept us entertained during lockdown and those that could get out on pedal assist bikes got to relive our pre motorbike years on just bikes. Re kindled my cycling, guess I’ll ride my motorbikes less, was even contemplating getting a couple of DH bikes for me and my Son.
Might see if we can get out to some DH courses over the Summer in England seeing as the other parts of UK are keeping lockdown going. Comes to something when it looks likely France will be easier to travel to and around than the other home nations lol

  13. I've decided to give cycling a go after getting fed up with running. Just bought a used but as new trek alpha 1.2. £200, seemed like a good price

  14. I'm off out again later. Doing a section of Route 45, the old railway line from Chiseldon to Marlborough. I gave up riding bikes (motor) on the road some years ago, the easing of restrictions wont be changing my plans.
We'll see what happens the gyms reopen, although I can see a long ride (weather permitting) replacing leg day.

  15. I used to love running at school but told not to post-op and ignoring this advice early on confirmed. It's a perfect day for cycling but nursing a flare-up now. Get out there, and have a good one.

  16. Yup - looks like that cold gusty wind has buggered off!
    Good luck with the swellings....:mask:

  17. Thanks, it's not the lurgy, it's my old friend, and the reason that i cycle. :upyeah:
