My dad found out he had the tell-tale signs of oesophageal (windpipe, and no - that doesn't mean arse!! :wink cancer by reading it in a medical book in WHSmith. For six months the GP had been telling he was just stressed - probably because dad had once mentioned that he ran his own business and found it hard to switch off. A further six months after being correctly diagnosed by that well-known high-street Newsagent, he was dead. Naturally, a complaint was made to the General Medical Council - to no avail of course...
