The end of Termignoni and Ducati?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by ResB1199, Jan 25, 2014.

  1. Suprisingly for anyone that saw the Ducati WSBK launch today, the bikes had Termignoni's on them. I am actually hugely suprised by this as I fully expected to see Akrapovic's.

  2. Just look at the design and build quality of that, absolutely fantastic, it's the bum that the 749/99 should always have had.

  3. I bought a set of termi's for £2,000 recently.... but they had a 748 attached.

  4. that back tyre looks a bargain too……….:upyeah::wink:

  5. Akro's are so much better built unfortunately, and they haven't rested on their laurels as Termignoni have. Truth is their quality has been piss poor for so long that they have just regarded it as acceptable to sell people that ill fitting tat- when compared to Akropovic. Audi will want to slowly bring in their own quality systems and Termi will have to accept that. Sad thing is that it probably wouldn't take a lot to change either in order to stay the OEM supplier for aftermarket.

If it's really that galling, just buy a termi sticker and park it over the pressed logo on the pipe, or bite the bullet and when the dealer askes if you'd like Akropovic sauce on your bike, just say no, you want Termi because nothing else will do on a Ducati. Simples.

  6. Personally Ducati's should only have termi's attached to them.

  7. They might well wear a termi sticker but there's no guarantee that they'll be termi's. Seen it done loads of times in high end racing, one sponsor's decal on another company's product because its so much better.

Germans don't do sentimentality where business is concerned, it's just become another finger in a profit pie and they'll do whatever it takes to get cost down, and warranty complaints down. Spirit/sentimentality/emotion is something the marketing department can play with.

  8. I confess to believing that nothing other than termi belonged to ducati....however I think the cost is oo high and have recently purchased sc projects...good enough for professional teams good enough for me...let you know how they rate when fitted but out the box....lovely

  9. thespoin, I understand where you're coming from, but the termi on the SP is just beautiful!

  11. What's that supposed to mean?

  12. Sorry, but I've had many termi systems and akrapovics, must say akra has termi licked for quality every time.

i know termi to ducati are like yoshimura what is to Suzuki but I'd rather fit the nicer option every time

  13. I suppose the irony is we are complaining about the build quality of a component that fits on a ducati.
    Enough said lol

  14. I have a full Termi system on my Diavel, and I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't mean I think other options are worse.

You pays your money and you takes your choice

  15. So Termi's on the works WSBK Panigale's but Akrapovic on the 2014 Desmo's being tested at Sepang today

  16. While we are on this musical analogy, I`m a violinist. 5 million for a Stradavarius. Is it 4,999,000 better than my instrument?.........

  17. "Value", i.e. what someone will pay for something doesn't work like that.

If you've got a few million spare for a Stradivarius, then yes, you'd prefer to own it than 4'999'000 of your instrument (where would you put them all?).

Is a £20k Panigale 10 times better than a second hand ratty 748?
Is a rare malt whisky 20 times better than a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label?

These are not really useful questions. Anything is worth what someone will pay for it and that means it has an emotional value which cannot be quantified in any other way.

  18. I suppose that in both cases it depends on whether you can take advantage of the extra performance.

People tell me that my 748 bip isn't as quick as a 748R... I'll never know because I can't reach the potential of the bike I've got..

  19. you can notice the difference with my mates guitar, he bought a martin HD for £2500 i think, it sounds amazing and to my untrained ears there is a huge difference.

back to bikes though. how do you know if you have a Ti system? its not rusty in the slightest and looks Ti to me but i could have been told lies when i bought my bike. is there a tell tale sign to loo for?
