The eternal tyre question

  1. I had uneven wear on my front Scorp, so when I took a chunk out of the rear at 3,500 miles after four months, I junked them for PR3s.

    I have done 4,700 on them in three months, lots of it at high speed on hot French motorways, with no visible signs of excessive wear. Always ran PR2s on my ST and was very happy with them. I used to get 6,000 out of a rear on that and expect to get at least that on my 2013 MTS.

    I never go off road though so can't comment on gravel grip etc.

  3. I fitted an Angel GT to the front after the wear everybody has experienced took its toll on the original scorpion. Im finding it awesome and toured the ardennes forest in late September. Feels ok in the wet but I never go too quick in the rain if Im honest. Incidently I also had a rear puncture with about 4mm tread on rear just refitted a scorpion but will fit an Angel as soon as its due. No problem mixing Angel front and Scorpion rear btw.

  5. Excellent. Been out in both freezing rain and nice dry roads and they behave exactly like they did on my old superduke. Very hard tire to fault to be honest.
     
  6. I've just replaced the Scorpions on my 6 mth old Multi with Angel GT's after the rear Scorp got a hole you could put your fist through! I would have thought the steel belted Scorpions would be less prone to punctures.

    I was a bit rushed so I hope I made the right choice with the Angel GT.

  7. Supposed to be a great tire too Kevin, not as good in the wet though apparently. I know a few lads with them and none had a bad word to say
     
  8. Thanks for all the advice, i went for pr 3s at the motorcycle live nec, no one had angel gts, but with so many good reports i am looking to slip them on for spring or when the gritters are finished,,
     
  9. I had PR 3s fitted today and when asked what pressure I would like in them gave the handbook figures of 2.9/2.9 bar for two-up riding (planned for tomorrow). The fitter was very surprised that they were so high, especially the front and phoned his supplier who consulted somewhere and came back with 2.2/2.4 bar for all loads. The Michelin web site refers you back to the 'manufactures handbook'. These pressures are a lot lower than the Ducati figures but the bike 'feels' OK on them - not that I have gone far yet or am anything of an expert.

    Anyone know why Ducati recommend such high figures, especially on a loaded bike when the extra weight is mostly over the back wheel? All other bikes I have owned have a lower pressure in the front. The fitter thought the handbook figures may be a printing error as it is so ridiculous.

    Can anyone shed any light. Is it just the Skorpions that need these pressures and that other makes are lower? Where is the information? I am concerned that they may get too hot on a long fast journey if I run them at lower than rec. pressure.

    Finally, what pressures are you using in PR3s? Many thanks.
     
  10. 36/42 on mine. Pretty sure that is manufacturers recommendations. Too many people get hung up and 1lb here and there and it makes squat difference for mere mortals on the road.
     
  11. Same as Fitzjnr. 2 up with bags or solo. Rear MPR3 has done over 7000 miles and has another 1000 to go. Is also one of a few makes that can be puncture repaired properly. As mine has been done; without issue.
     
  12. Your right. Michelin site does quote 2.2/2.4 bar pressures

    PR3 / 4 are the same pressure.
     
  13. All bike handbook advice on tyre pressures is only ever applicable to the exact tyre make/model that is fitted at the factory. You should always get pressure advice on other tyres from the tyre manufacturer.

    However, they are baseline pressures. You may need to tweak them for your application. I found 36F 42R was good for two-up with luggage when I had PR3s on.
     
  14. Track pressures I ran last July at Oulton on me Mutley1200 was 32psi front 35psi rear. Was fine but greasy as hell. Tou tube Biot1200 and you'll see!
     
  15. Always go f/r 32/36 every bike, every tyre when I check them. On track that would be 29/27 or 28 without warmers

    Seems to work for me
